Best/Worst Analysis of Holding Your Family Together (Deut. 30:19)

What are the best things that will happen to us if we our family together?

• It is God’s will. From Genesis to Revelation in the Bible, families hold themselves together. Isreal is Isreal today because Jacobs (renamed Israel) children held themselves together. Abraham held tight to Lot, his nephew - some self-centred Christians saw it as a problem! Jesus holds us together whether we whatever our race, tribe or tongue!
• African culture is built on LOVE - 'Be your brother's keeper"
o As a family unit, united we stand, divided we fall
o We shall better the lots of our community, State and nation.
. No intruder will be able to penetrate our family
o We'll produce glory producing children like Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, William Shakespeare, etc
What is the worst thing that can happen if we fail to hold our family together?
• Intruders will penetrate our midst and scatter us through gossip
• We’ll betray the confidence of our forefathers by becoming self-centred
• Our family will not be in a place of honour in our villages/towns/country.
• Love will disappear from us altogether envy ourselves instead of building ourselves
. Satan has come to steal, to kill and to destroy, failure to hold our families together will make Satan a winner!

Decision: Let’s all resolve to uphold our families no matter our glaring differences. Good morning.

Biblical support: Deut. 30:19-2119 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!

Who Will Enter The Kingdom of Heaven?

In Matt 10:2-5 Jesus, trapped with the question of divorce wisely told his tempters that Moses permitted it because of the hardness of their hearts otherwise it shouldn’t happen at all. Saying otherwise even though it was the truth, would have been fatal. But when talking to his disciples in v. 11, he said point blank: “Whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery against her”! He owes them no duty of care because they are not his tempters; so, he is not interested in the ‘why’s’ of this world. He went ahead to tell them the fuller meaning “adultery” which in itself is a sin which we all know God hates, that we engage in it notwithstanding! In the subsequent verses when dealing with the rich man who thought he has fulfilled all righteousness through good works to qualify him for heaven, Jesus shocked him by saying his deeds alone would not save him. What would save him is to follow him i.e. have a genuine relationship with him, not his tithes, offerings, whether he is polygamous or monogamous, rich or poor, etc.

Then what are we talking about in Christianity and heavenly home?

The answer is simple: our good works and genuine relationship with God will generate God's grace to save us. All those saved all through history (except Jesus who was perfect), were sinners but they did their best in terms of work but more importantly had deep relationship with God. That’s the Moses, and David and Solomon, Jacob, notorious Paul the Apostle and other biblical examples we know about. Why not join them? How? Accept the Lord Jesus Christ. Read your Bible daily. Be guided by the Holy Spirit in everything you do. Good morning.

Best approaches to elders and youths

<1 Never speak harshly to an older man,* but appeal to him respectfully as you would to your own father. Talk to younger men as you would to your own brothers. 2 Treat older women as you would your mother, and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters. 1Tim.5:1-2

Older men and women are by virtue of their experience leaders in their own rights. They are people we should go to for guidance. Younger men and women are people whose destinies can be easily positively or negatively affected through how they relate with people, especially the elderly ones. Therefore, let the young ones heed the biblical advice above so they will not only live long but fulfil their God ordained destinies. Elders too should not provoke the younger ones! Good morning.

Our Beliefs will deliver our Success

“Anything is possible if a person believes.”Mark 8:23

Faith (belief) in God and in yourself; preparedness (determination) to pay the price (hard work) required to achieve your set goals in life and persistence in pursuing them without looking back (resilience) will guarantee your success more than any other contrary approaches you may have adopted or are adopting now. So have faith in God and in yourself. Good morning.

Fear and faith

"Fear and faith are the same thing from two opposite ends. While fear is the belief that something negative is about to happen, faith is the belief that something positive is about to happen."
When the four lepers advanced towards the camp of the Syrian army expecting the worst, they were shocked to have their breakthrough with no single soldier in sight. Some of the things you are afraid of are incapable of delivering their threat. Also, never stop your advance because of something you are afraid of. Continue to march forward especially when God leads you in that direction. In addition, we learn that behind that fear is your breakthrough. As long as you are afraid, you may never hit your breakthrough. What are you afraid of? What is that thing you dread so much that has made you to stop your advance? Drop it! That fear has no substance but faith has substance. Start to expect that the situation will turn around for your good and it shall be so. Expect the best. Reject every thought of failure, disappointment, dryness, delay or death. Around that bend lies your greatest joy. The chicken-hearted cannot access their blessings because of fear. If you are afraid, the Lord will set you free from this tormenting spirit. Read the Word of God and meditate daily on it. It will help to increase your faith. Separate from people, things and activities that can fuel fear and doubt in you.

Leadership By Example

"The shepherd cares for the sheep. Some leaders are so stingy that one kobo cannot drop for a needy sheep from their pockets, yet they keep preaching that you should help the poor. They are hypocrites! Let your flock see you leading even in the area of assisting those in need." By Pastor E.A. Adeboye Open Heavens October 18th

This is food for thought for all leaders, whether in the church, family, office etc. Good morning.

Returning Home

As it is in heaven, so it is on earth. There are always two homes to return wherever we go. The first is our heavenly home after the long/short sojourn in this planet. Nobody likes to return there. But whether we like it or not we must.

Our second home is our village. Many people don't like to return there. It is wrong. We all should return there. Wherever else we go, we are strangers. It is even sad when we have to die and be buried in lands other than where we were born. It's like coming to this world and not returning to heaven. Dead or alive, we should return to our homes. Even before we die, more importantly let us return there to form part of her development.Consider returning home at some point in your life and start by regularly paying visits there and forming part of her growth. Good morning.

The Herodias' Legacies

“I will give you whatever you ask, up to half my kingdom!” 24 She went out and asked her mother, “What should I ask for?” Her mother told her, “Ask for the head of John the Baptist!” 25 So the girl hurried back to the king and told him, “I want the head of John the Baptist, right now, on a tray!” John 6:22-25.

An interesting story of two Herodias (wicked mother, thoughtless daughter!) They both left legacies of sorrow! What sort of a mother are you? What sort of a child are you?

The Choice is Yours - God Does not Foce People

19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This* is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
Deut. 30:19.

God has the power to compel us to do His bid. But He will not do that because he wants us to have a say in the affairs of our lives. That's why the above quotation is important to us all. You are a product of your choices in life. So, choose right. Good morning.

Soldier and Police Corruption, Their Biblical Bases

Soldiers (Matt. 28:13-15)

A meeting with the elders was called, and they decided to give the soldiers a large bribe. 13 They told the soldiers, “You must say, ‘Jesus’ disciples came during the night while we were sleeping, and they stole his body.’ 14 If the governor hears about it, we’ll stand up for you so you won’t get in trouble.” 15 So the guards accepted the bribe and said what they were told to say. Their story spread widely among the Jews, and they still tell it today.

Police (Matt. 5:25-26)

25 “When you are on the way to court with your adversary, settle your differences quickly. Otherwise, your accuser may hand you over to the judge, who will hand you over to an officer, and you will be thrown into prison. 26 And if that happens, you surely won’t be free again until you have paid the last penny.*

Yet it is still prevalent till today! Good morning.

Dangers of Scheming

"According to lessons learnt from David's choice as king of Israel recorded in 1 Samuel 16:6-13, the one Heaven will anoint for significant assignments must be recommended by God. Similarly, the fellow must not be a position seeker. David was not seeking for the position of king, yet the Almighty God grabbed him and said, 'You will be king'. Whenever you see someone scheming one way or another to get ordained or to be considered for some important appointments in God's house, you can be sure that fellow is not chosen by God. Anyone truly chosen by God who hears that he or she is being considered for ordination, or any higher assignment will be humbled and would want to reject it. If he has the opportunity of dodging that appointment, he will gladly do so. If you examine those God called in the Bible - Moses, Joshua, Jeremiah, etc, they always asked, 'Lord, who am I that you would choose me for this assignment?' When God says He wants to ordain them, they would ask God to look for somebody else. God has a warning for those who scheme, manipulate or bribe their way into spiritual positions and promotions. "And seekest thou great things for thyself? Seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest". It simply means putting yourself where God has not placed you can bring you a myriad of problems. Be wise."
Culled from Pastor E.A. Adeboye's Open Heavens of October 18th 2009

God is talking to somebody this morning who is a specialist in scheming for positions in their offices, families, churches, clubs, societies, etc. If you schemed yourself to attain the positions you currently occupy anywhere or have become an all-time schemer, ask God for forgiveness and ask Him to redirect your steps towards His purpose for your life. It is on in His purpose that you can succeed without sorrow added. Good morning.

Scoffers Don't Experience Breakthrough

Jesus did many more miracles everywhere except in his home town and amongst his own family. All his miracles were in foreign lands. Then he concluded “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.”

For you to record the breakthroughs, it is advisable you distinguish between the person you know in the physical and the person God intends to use to bless you and get glued to the latter irrespective of how familiar you think you have been to him or her. He may be your son, brother, sister, husband, auntie, Pastor, brethren, it doesn't matter. Also, don't get unnecessarily angry over their capability for it is God's gift for them. When you are angry, you losing the more! Good morning.

There’s appropriate Timing for Everything

“The time promised by God has come at last!” he (Jesus) announced before he finally started his ministry.
Planning always take the greater part of any project than its execution. Jesus spent 30 years preparing for a ministry that will last for only three and a half years but have ETERNAL effect upon the entire world! Learning from Jesus, therefore, if we want to succeed in anything, it is instructive that we check the appropriateness of the timing for whatever we intend to do and spend more time planning than rushing to execute them.

How do you know the timing is up? God may speak to you directly (audibly or through the Bible, through dreams, visions etc); He may use others (your Pastor, neighbour, unbelievers, believers, parents, teachers, friends, films you watch, books you read, things happening around you, etc); You may suddenly become restless about the project; you may feel unhappy unless you do something about it, everything surrounding you will tell you to PROCEED. When these convictions are overwhelming, then proceed. Will it be smooth? It may and it may not. Either way it does not mean that the timing is wrong. If it is tough, God will strengthen you if it is smooth, then it is a bonus. What's important is go ahead and do it. So to everything there's an appointed time!
(Eccl.3:1ff). Good morning.

What should polygamous people do with their extra wives?

Polygamy or monogamy, is not a condition-precedent for salvation! It is God who determines who is to be saved. BUT IT IS AGAINST BIBLICAL TEACHING THAT A POLYGAMIST BECOMES A PASTOR in the church - a serious limitation to serving God.

The irony of it all is that a monogamist Pastor who does not obey God may go to hell while a polygamous member of his congregation who has good relationship with God receive the grace for salvation!

So, you haven’t fallen into it, do yourself a favour, don’t fall into the booby trap of polygamy! The inevitable distractions (unfair treatments, pressures, quarrels, misunderstandings, etc) may pave way for living in hell on earth and eventually end you up in eternal hell because you are most likely to always be particularly angry and anger prima facie, sound parameter to go to hell (see Gal. 5:19-21).

Now as a man if, for whatever reasons, you find yourself in it. What do you do? If you really want to grow in the spirit and aspire to become a Pastor in a Bible believing Church, you must reduce the number of your wives to one - your very first wife even if she's a devil! Yes, it is a difficult decision to make, but what the Bible says. It is called restitution. Great men of God e.g. the founder of RCCG, Late Pa Akindayomi did it for the passion he had for Christ. Yes, they might have serious repercussions so the restitution itself must be properly handled and Holy spirit guided. The approach must be equitable to all (the outgoing wives in particular). If they are still marriable, they can re-marry but if not it is just fair that the man continues to provide for their needs in all things but two: living together as husband and wives and engaging in sexual relations. The children in the relationship remain the man's legitimate children for every child is God's child. The man must continue to be responsible for their needs till they become independent. Therefore All parties to it must be made to understand why and voluntarily agree to it otherwise it will lead to negative consequences.

Another important point is this: Restitution is not exactly "divorce" in the negative sense of the word. At the very best, it is ‘separation’ and separated people can still be friends if they carry Holy Ghost in them. It’s all about the sacrifice to right what is wrong. Good morning.

Attract, don’t repel people

"When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. 2 Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door.

Many Christians homes today are as dry as the dessert. That was not Jesus' approach. By his good deeds, he always attracted people to himself. It is not to gain popularity, but it naturally follows that if you do good people will always be attracted to you as it was to him. He only isolates himself when he needs a break to commune with his Father.
It is better to be sought after by people than to be isolated by them. Good morning.

Don't Run Away From Favour

The story the demon-possessed man (Mark 5:1-15ff) who sleeps in the caves and could not be controlled is instructive to us all who consider ourselves sane. He came to Jesus, bowed to him and in Mark 4:15 and was perfectly healed. He became himself and followed Christ.

But sadly those who were considered‘sane’ became insane by ordering Jesus out of their lives instead of embracing him like the mad man did. We all (the writer inclusive) see many signs and wonders that would have saved our lives as Jesus did to the mad man or people whom God would have used to help us fulfil our destinies. However, instead of bowing to Jesus to help us mend our ways, and move closer to our helpers, like the mad man did, we revolt against him or runs and run away from them. We continue in our old ways like those who saw Jesus did. In spite of whom we are, may God just have mercy upon us. May His unfailing love combined with His grace deliver us from doom and if need be (FORCE) us to attain our earthly and heavenly destinies in Jesus name. Good morning.

Did Joseph Become a Prime Minister because of his Righteousness?

“How can I do this evil against my God?” Many preachers have continued to emphasise that it was the righteous act by avoiding to have an affair with Portipha’s wife that eventually led to Joseph becoming a Prime Minister in Egypt. No, it is the fear of the Lord in Him which upturned that temptation. It is different from where God was taking him - his pre-ordained destiny! So, it is not this ‘work’itself otherwise many of us are more disciplined and self-righteous than Joseph. David wasn’t righteous at all but in his weakest position, he had good relationship with God because he feared Him. David fulfilled his destiny in spite of his weaknesses.

If our ‘works’ or ‘self-righteousness were considered exclusively, none of us would have gotten to where we already are in life talkless of fulfilling the greater and better destinies ahead of us.
The writer’s submission is: let us develop good relationship with God. It will become easier for us to do righteous. However, the fulfilment of our earthly and heavenly destinies have been pre-destined (remember Joseph's dream) and will be only achieved by the HIS GRACE obtainable through His unfailing love and mercies. Good morning.

Having Difficulties Arriving At a Decision?

Life is full of choices. Our parents took a decision before we were born. They took a decision whether to send us to or not. We took the decision whether to obey them by excelling or failing out of the school. We take a decision whether to work or not or even become a criminal or not; we take a decision on the career to take to. We decide whether we should marry or not ourselves; whether or not to bring forth children; invest our or waste them; care for our parents or not. Serve God or not. The writer of this post decided to post it!

All these have repercussions on us, good or bad.

Are you having difficulty reaching a decision on any issue, apply Ben Carson's B/W Analysis approach. It is called BEST, WORSE or WORST BEST ANALYSIS.

For instance to marry or not ask yourself,

What is the best thing that will happen to me if I got married?
Ans: I will become responsible; I will have a companion; it is the will of God; I will be able to produce children named after me; I will be able saved from sexual temptations. At old age, I will my children will cater for me.

What is the worst thing that can happen to me?

I will take on more responsibilities directly or indirectly (higher feeding, dealing with extended family challenges, faced with challenges of parenting. If my wife is incompatible with me, then I am in trouble for the rest of my life. If I divorce her, my life will never remain the same; I must provide for my family compulsorily; Even if we are compatible, we may face some unpleasant challenges such that we have to tolerate ourselves if not our relationship will pack up; and so on. If I marry inter-tribally, my wife might not settle in my village at my old age.

If I don't marry at all what is the best thing to happen to me:

Ans. I have ONLY to myself, maybe my parents, siblings and extended families and community, If I so desire, to cater for So no less stress for me.

If I don't marry at all what is the worst thing that can happen to me
Loneliness at old age. Appear irresponsible in my active days and my life may be miserable because I have no companion. I will likely frolic around women to satisfy my sexual urges, through that produce children that will become problems to my society.

Then take a decision. Whatever decision you arrive at, those things you forsee will be waiting for you as you journey through life. As they arise, you prepare for their solutions. Don't ever take any decision without considering the B/W Analysis. That's what Ben Cars, a reknowned international Neurosurgeon uses even to take decisions on whether or not to cary out brain surgery on all his patients. He adds prayers. And they have resulted in his success! Good morning.

There's No Blissful Marriage!

Spinsters & Bachelors, I know you are anxious to get married!  You've spotted that 'angelic' spirit-filled man or woman of God.  Day and night you dream of him or her!  Indeed nothing is sweeter than him or her in your life anymore!  Your marriage will be 'blissful'!

Good thinking!  Let me first advise you that MARRIAGE itself is only but a NECESSARY RISK.  Whether there's a blissful marriage or not, ask those who are already in it. Read the newspapers, surf  the (visit http://www.onlinedivorce.com/ ) for statistics, go to the law courts for details of past/ongoing divorce cases.  Above all, ask our wise King Solomon what led him to 700/300 wife/concubineship!

Why is there no blissful marriage? It is so because every marriage is like a voyage in the ocean, some portions of the oceans are peaceful, some turbulent.  Every marriage must pass through its own wilderness where there are mannas, serpents, valleys, mountains, swamp, desserts and thick forests etc. Sometimes, water must come out of the rocks to continue in relationship!  Only those who are prepared for these challenges will succeed in it!  Want yours to succeed?  Order your copy of my books: "Now That You Are Married, Make It Work"  and for singles: "This Think Called Marriage"
