I Don’t, Nay, I Do Depend Upon Miracles

What a study in contrast life can be! In my autobiography titled “Better Tomorrow” 2006 edition, (visit www.www.letsharexperirnce.blospot.com) I titled a Chapter of it “I Don’t Depend Upon Miracles’.  This is premised upon the fact that I cherished (and still cherish) hard work as the key to financial and material breakthroughs in life.
From my experiences after 2006, I came to realise that our though hard work has its own consequences, recording an expected breakthrough must have a toga of miracle in it.  No wonder the Bible says in Rom. 12:9 thus, “Not slothful in business, fervent in prayers”.  No matter how hard working one may be, one needs prayers to make all things equal so one can obtain desired results.
From my years of experience as a hard working practising farmer, I have come to realise that farmers are at the mercy of the buyers of their products.  This is because farmers are not allowed to fix the prices and most often the market prices are far below the cost of producing the product.  So though farmers are very hard working people, but their success depends upon miracles from God because they always undersell.  The miracle behind this is that inspite of their sustaining losses, God caters for them in his miraculous ways.  May God attend to your own case speedily in Jesus’ name.
From what I have experienced, I have come to the conclusion that hard working is good but it ALONE does not answer to our hearts’ desires.

Action:  Work hard. Pray hard and Trust in the Lord for your miracles.
Prayer point: Father, don’t let me trust in my hard work but in You to record my miracles in Jesus’ name.

Good Parents Leave Good Legacies for their Children

Bible Text:  Prov. 22:6.  “Teach your children to choose the right path, and when they are older, they will remain upon it.”

Material wealth in terms of real estate properties, assorted vehicles, financial wealth or such intangible properties like education are all good assets that parents ought to leave behind for their children when they leave this world.  However, these legacies  will hardly last after the giver’s exit from this planet.  Therefore, the greatest asset of everlasting value is to teach our children to know their Creator.  When a child fears the Lord, (Prov. 1:7), the child will leave the congregation of fools and the Lord will pour upon him the Holy Spirit who will guide him in all things including his footsteps.
Parents cannot train a child correctly except they themselves are submissive to the Lord.  The greatest way to train a child is to begin to speak the word of God to their lives even from when they are in the womb.  When the child arrives, family altar is indispensable if the child will begin his or her life on a right footing.  Not only this, physical demonstration of our love for Christ should be seen by the child by way of taking the child to the house of the Lord is regularly.  Teaching the child what the Bible says always is another important direction for parents to follow.  Use the word of God to pre-empt the foreseeable errors the child can commit and when an error is actually committed, mirror the child’s error with the word of God so he can see clearly where he has gone wrong and know how to soft-pedal.   We use this approach  a lot in our family to give our children proper bearing in life.  We are never afraid whether our children after, leaving us can join an anti-social group because the Holy Spirit is indwelling in them who will always point the way to them.  We never had the fear that our children could disobey us because they know that we as the parents would not disobey God nor disobey our own parents.  We have no fear that our children will excel wherever they go because we know that God will always give them directions to follow and so on.
A stage will surely come in the child’s life, if thoroughly and correctly guided by the word of God, that he will be weaned spiritually and become directly led by the Holy Spirit.  Whosoever is led by the Holy Spirit cannot make silly mistakes because the Holy Spirit will always guide him.
Fellow parents, let’s commit the ways of our children unto the Lords hands as they are exposed to the temporal things of this world.  Let them have the right teaching from the on-set that it is good to have material, financial and other wealth but that the greatest legacy  we can give them is to know God and follow His precepts.
Prayer point:  Father, help me to prepare my children’s mind towards knowing You in Jesus name.

Don’t Envy, Instead, Celebrate Your Junior

Today’s Energiser

Bible Text:  “…When Joseph’s brothers saw him coming, they recognized him in the distance and made plans to kill him. 19 “Here comes that dreamer!” they exclaimed. 20 “Come on, let’s kill him and throw him into a deep pit. We can tell our father that a wild animal has eaten him. Then we’ll see what becomes of all his dreams!” 21 But Reuben came to Joseph’s rescue. “Let’s not kill him,” he said. 22 “Why should we shed his blood? Let’s just throw him alive into this pit here. That way he will die without our having to touch him.” Reuben was secretly planning to help Joseph escape, and then he would bring him back to his father. 23 So when Joseph arrived, they pulled off his beautiful robe 24 and threw him into the pit. This pit was normally used to store water, but it was empty at the time. 25 Then, just as they were sitting down to eat, they noticed a caravan of camels in the distance coming toward them. It was a group of Ishmaelite traders taking spices, balm, and myrrh from Gilead to Egypt. 26 Judah said to the others, “What can we gain by killing our brother? That would just give us a guilty conscience. 27 Let’s sell Joseph to those Ishmaelite traders. Let’s not be responsible for his death; after all, he is our brother!”  Gen. 37:6-27
According to our Bible passage today, everybody (including Joseph’s father)  had wondered whom Joseph would be.  However, his brothers out of envy, went further.  They considered the various available options that would make God’s plan for Joseph life not to come to pass.  Finally, thanks to Reuben and Judah who toned down their levels of envy.  They never wanted Joseph dead but albeit, they never wanted his destiny to be fulfilled.  God will send your own Reuben and Judah to save you from the enemies’ death plan for you in Jesus’ name.
Let us compare this with what happened to this writer years back.  He was living with a friend who hailed from Bayelsa State while he is from Ekiti State himself.  Both of us  were strugglers trying to pass some professional examinations in the Secretarial line.  It turned out to be that when my friend and I sat for examinations together, one (usually my friend) would pass while I would fail.  Instead of being envious, I would order for the soft drinks with which I would celebrate my brother.  That was my regular practice until God started answering my own prayers too and we both succeeded.
When I first had the opportunity of owning a landed property, the first person I invited to buy land beside me was my dear friend. I started my building first but he completed his own building and moved into the house long before me.  I rejoiced with him. A noteworthy episode occurred while we were building our houses.  When he wanted to deck his building, I had in store all the materials I needed to deck mine but could not raise funds for labour and cement.  What is more, I needed money to pay my children’s school fees so badly then.  He told me he wanted to deck his property.  I seized the opportunity to raise my son’s school fees by selling all the materials I had intended to use to him for which he paid and we mutually benefited from another.  I waited for my own appointed time to deck my building which took long to, but it finally came.  Eventually, God helping us, we both completed out buildings.
Brethren, God does not order things according to age.  He does as He pleases (Psa 135:6-12) “ The Lord does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth,
and on the seas and in their depths.”  He can decide that the Junior shall be the leader as in Joseph and David’s cases.  He can choose a stammerer as a leader and appoint his elder brother to be his assistant as He did to Moses and Aaron.  He may decide to make the outlawed child to be the leader of a family as was the case with Jephthah.  Has he not brought back President Buhari  and Governor Fayose of Ekiti State back to the throne when we all had thought it was impossible?  As the Lord lives you will fulfil your destiny of being ‘the head’ and not the tail as recorded in as recorded in Deut. 28:12-13 in Jesus’.  However if you notice that someone junior to you is placed in authority over you, the most honourable path to take is to appreciate God for his life, pray for him to succeed and do practically all you can “to lift his hands up” as Aaron the older brother of Moses did to his junior and he reaped the good rewards.  Accord him or her the honour they deserve. Never envy them because in the first place, you can do nothing to reverse the plan of God for them but you can certainly benefit from them.   If only you will obey this golden rule, God may use that person to rescue you and lift you up at a point in time as God used Joseph, Jephthah and Esther to save Israel.  Don’t allow petty jealousy or envy to undo your destiny.  Celebrate those in authority over you whether they are junior to you in age or not.  God bless you in Jesus name.

Prayer Point:  Father, grate me the grace never to be jealous of whomsoever you have placed in authority over me. As I do O Lord, remember me too for upliftment at my own appointed time in Jesus’ name.

wean Yourself or Be Weaned

“And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned. Gen: 21:8
Like a baby, suck your mother’s milk while it flows for a time will come that it will dry up!
There are two periods in every person’s life – the time of dependence and the time of independence.  At the onset, every child depends upon his mother’s milk to live.  It is so sweet to taste and it is a period of bonding between the mother and the child. However, a time comes in that child’s life that he will breast milk will no longer be sufficient for him if he must grow well.  Then parents will begin to feed him with light foods. Later on he graduates to solid foods.  Finally the child must be weaned.
The time of weaning a child is not always and easy time both for the baby and the mother as the baby will want to continue to take the milk even after eating solid food.   Yet it is a task that must be accomplished by both parties if the baby must become independent and for the mother to enjoy a rest.
So it is in practically all facets of our lives.  Weaning a child from breast milk is just a preliminary stage of a child gaining independence.  That child still continues to depend upon his parents for total upbringing – he receives formal and informal education.  When a child is introduced to a formal schooling he will at first resist.  The parents will insist he must go.  Finally he is weaned from the home to see the outside world otherwise he will become a nuisance.  So the formal school takes care of formal education while the home front becomes the centre for informal learning.  At home he receives informal training through direct teaching and through observation of what the parents and neighbours do.  A child is taught on various subjects like how to respect elders, to be hard working, to avoid dangers, etc.
By the time the child is above twenty, or completes his formal education in formal settings he graduates again to the outer world where he must combine his hands with his knowledge to cater for himself.  This time he’s totally weaned from his parents to fend for himself.
In the spiritual life, there’s a time to be preached to and be taken proper care of by the spiritual father.  However, by the time a convert becomes a worker, a minister and probably a Pastor, he must be so independent of his Pastor such that other new converts now depend upon him.  These are the cycles of life. We should not expect to be dependent upon other people all through our lives.  In the spiritual, we should so dedicate our lives to God through constant study of His word (Jos. 1:8, Hosea 4:7) that we too become prophets unto nations (Jer. 1:5).  In the secular, we must wean ourselves from depending upon other people to continue to feed us.  We must provide for ourselves and our own families. Many adults don’t realise this on time and their lives become miserable.  Don’t be among those who must depend totally upon others.  If you don’t wean yourself and become independent, remember, the people you are depending upon will wean you because you will surely become an illness that must be removed by drugs or if stubborn, ‘surgically’.  Don’t wait for such a time for they must surely come.
Prayer point:  Father, long before I am forcefully or surgically weaned by my benefactors, help me to know when to wean myself from depending upon others.  Take me to the next level where I am so blessed that I become a blessing to others in Jesus name.

Life Doesn't Smile At Anybody

Bible Text:  “In the days when the judges ruled in Israel, a man from Bethlehem in Judah left the country because of a severe famine. He took his wife and two sons and went to live in the country of Moab. 2 The man’s name was Elimelech, and his wife was Naomi. Their two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in the land of Judah. During their stay in Moab, 3 Elimelech died and Naomi was left with her two sons. 4 The two sons married Moabite women. One married a woman named Orpah, and the other a woman named Ruth. But about ten years later, 5 both Mahlon and Kilion died. This left Naomi alone, without her husband or sons. Ruth 1:1-11

Whether you are a Jew or a Gentile, life treats everybody exactly the same way. It does not smile at one and frown at the other.  From Naomi’s biography one can see that her lot was truly bitter.  She lost Elimelech her husband.  She lost her two sons – and none of them had issues that she can console herself with! Now, she decided to let go her daughters-in-law by herself so she could go back home empty!  She considered her life ended.  She said, verse 20-21 of that chapter, “Don’t call me Naomi,” she told them. “Instead, call me Mara,* for the Almighty has made life very bitter for me. 21 I went away full, but the Lord has brought me home empty.”  And she’s a bona fide, full-blooded Israelite!
When Job got to the peak of his suffering, the only thing left for him was to trust in the Lord.  He said “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth”.
But finally both Naomi and Job overcame their challenges.  I decree upon you that those challenges inside of which you are swimming  right now will soon become history in Jesus’ name.  When the Israelites eventually  exited the Red Sea inside which the King Pharaoh, his chariots and charioteers and all his warriors perished, there was a song of victory.  I decree that sooner that you ever thought it would be, you will not only compose but sing a song of victory in Jesus’ name.
The difference between the believer and the unbeliever is that the believer rejoices in adversity as he believes it  is only a passing phase but the unbeliever ends it all by himself – may commit suicide, may steal if he’s hungry, may kill others at the slightest provocation – he acts on impulse and in a detrimental way.  I have passed through many challenges in life.  Even though the pangs of pains are pepperish to feel,  even though some times, I asked God questions as Naomi did, I have always tried to remember God inside of them.  When I come . ways rejoiced inside my pains because I knew that I shall (and I have always overcome) them all and come out better.  So when adversities surround you, trust in the Lord to deliver you from the valleys.
Prayer Point:  O Lord, whenever I am overwhelmed by troubles, grant me the grace to always remember that you will deliver me out of them all in Jesus’s name.

When All Roads Are Blocked

Bible Text:   As Pharaoh and his army approached, the people of Israel could see them in the distance, marching toward them. The people began to panic, and they cried out to the Lord for help. ….13 But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand where you are and watch the Lord rescue you. The Egyptians that you see today will never be seen again. 14 The Lord himself will fight for you. You won’t have to lift a finger in your defense 15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to get moving! 16 Use your shepherd’s staff—hold it out over the water, and a path will open up before you through the sea. Then all the people of Israel will walk through on dry ground. Exod. 14: 10-15
A child that is experiencing retarded growth is experienciGng his own road block. A student who has difficulty passing his examinations is experiencing a road block.  A wife who is experiencing cruelty from her husband is experiencing a road block.  A graduate who has no opportunity to pursue a career of his choice is experiencing a road block.  A Pastor whose ministers become rebels is tasting his own road block.  A man who marries a nagging wife is facing a road block.  So at every stage in our lives, we are bound to experience road blocks.  We need to pray to overcome them but more often we need to take specific action to overcome them.
When the Israelites faced the Red Sea, they decided to cry to God (prayers), they complained (rebelled) against Moses but the two methods never worked.  God reacted by saying to them “why are you crying to me” when you can take an action.  God then gave directives on what to do that would free them from the Egyptian enemies.  And the moment Moses did this, they found solution. As the Lord lives, you might have prayed or complained, today God will tell you what to do to overcome your road blocks in Jesus name.
But you must take action specific action. The great Neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson once had two road blocks in his life.  He was practically blind but not until the school was moved by the spirit to test the eyes of all their students, he never had solution. Somebody somewhere will be moved to give you solution today in Jesus name.  He was always scoring zero in his early school days but later he overcame this when his mother decided to wean him from the Television and redirect his focus to his books; he obeyed and read his books dedicatedly, he and overcame his failure. He became the best.  As the Lord lives,  you  your weaknessshall turn to strength in Jesus’ name.

Instead of praying amiss or complaining persistently to those who cannot bail you out, why not think of what you can do practically to solve your problems.  May God give you revelations in Jesus name.
Prayer point:  Deut. 29:29 says “secret things belong onto the Lord, the ones that are revealed to us belong to us…”.  Ask God to reveal the secret of your destiny to you today.

Universal Brotherhood

Bible Text:   Then God said, “Let us make people in our image, to be like ourselves. They will be masters over all life—the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the livestock, wild animals,* and small animals.”So God created people in his own image; God patterned them after himself; male and female he created them.  Gen. 1:26-27 (NLT)


From the foundation of human existence as recorded in Gen. 1:26-27 quoted above, all human beings are one.  God created “people”.  So the nexus that binds us together as one family is the  “people”principle.  So long as you are a human being, you are a “people”.  There was no religion attached to “people”.  We are first a people before veering into our various religions which  in themselves, emerged as a result of disobedience of our father, Abraham, who as a human being, reasoning logically thought that all hope of getting a  promised Isaac was lost, agreed with his wife produce a child for them through Hagar – a child that God Almighty did not discriminate against Himself!
And the story of discrimination had begun from there and till date it continues leading to shedding blood.
If only people will see themselves as a people, there will be universal bond of brotherhood amongst us all and peace would have reigned.  If people will realise that the next door neighbour is my brother or sister, whose keeper I must be (irrespective of his religious perspective), there will be no blood shed.  If people (of all religions and even the free thinkers) will see themselves as the one that they are from the perspective of their origin and as children from the same parents, they will allow peace to reign.  Any form of discrimination is Satan’s device to actualise his purpose in human life: to kill, to steal and to destry. (John 10:10)
Yes, I am a Christian and a Pastor for that matter.  This does not exempt me from being a “people” with my brothers and sisters who may have chosen, religiously, to be what they understand to be the right path (life is a matter of choice – Deut. 30:19). They remain my brothers and sisters because we come from the same source.  Their choices of religion: Christianity, Islam, etc (or even preferring to be an animist), should not prevent me from extending a hand of fellowship to them.  It does not prevent me from being generous towards them.  After all did my Bible not tell me that I should love God and love my neighbours as myself? Any moment I deviate from this golden rule, I have forsaken God – this is the truth whether I admit it or not. And many Christians, Muslims, free thinkers have chosen to forsake God because they are discriminating.  The greatest I can do to my brother or sister out there is to invite him to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal Saviour.  I am still expressing love to him or her.  But the choice is his or hers to do so or not to do so.  That they don’t become Christians by my admonition should not form the basis where I will not want to see him fulfilling his own destiny in this planet.  Religion, honestly, is all about making heaven and making heaven or not is a choice one must make him or herself.
Brethren, there will be great surprises in Heaven oh.  But let us all remember, we are a “people” before we chose our religions. There is a universal brotherhood that joins us together.  Don’t let us break it.  God bless you.

The Dangers of a Danger?

Topic:    The Dangers of a  Danger?
Bible Text:   A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions; the simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.  Prov. 22:3


It is not difficult for us to identify dangers.  Not at all.  We all know that such luxuries such as alcohol, prostitution, (Hosea 4:11) adultery (Prov. 6:23), all endanger our lives.  We all know that even though stolen bread is sweet,  dangers are attached to it.  We know that engaging in robbery is a very dangerous venture because one the culprit ewill not always be lucky.   We all know that moving too close to a moving vehicle, no matter how slow the speed may can terminate our lives suddenly.  Staging a coup against constituted authority,  we know,  is a deadly game.  Plotting against your leader is very dangerous for your own progress in life.  It is like toying with a dynamite. A Nigerian Head of State, Late General Abacha once said “a mere perception of a coup” is as dangerous as when it is executed!
In every venture we undertake, there are dangers that must be recognised and appropriately addressed.  The dangers of a danger that if not properly nipped in the bud is that it can completely ruin a vision.  A good example:  we farmers use chemicals a lot and the manufacturers of these chemicals expressly warn us about the dangers of ‘the dangers’ in our hands.

Pesticides,  we know,  are very toxic and must not only be stored away from children (and adults alike) but adults using them must also protect themselves when they are being used. In our family we are very conscious of this fact and we act to the letter to make sure no calamity occur.  But a day came that there was a slip in our safety process. The result?  We lost some investments as a result of this error. That’s the reality of the dangers of a danger. May God continue to protect us iJn. What happened?  Soldier ants evaded our poultry pen.  We applied appropriate pesticides to destroy them.
However in the process of doing this, we inadvertently left the remainder of the pesticide in our corridor because everything was hurriedly done.  While doing other tackling the ants, a junior member of our family went past where the chemical was kept hitting it unconsciously with his leg or so and the chemical bottle fell from its upright  position and spilled on the floor where, unfortunately, the leftover of our pets feed was neatly kept in a polybag.  One way or the other, the food was soaked by the chemical and later dried up.  Unknown to us, we picked up this ‘dry’ food and fed them with it as their supper.  The following morning, they were all stone dead! Who is to blame?  In our family and business,  we are a Team.  This is a domestic accident, nothing more. Therefore we don’t look for who to blame. Instead, we look for lessons to learn to prevent recurrence of dangers.
What we learnt from this is that chemicals of whatever nature are dangerous so they must be kept away from wherever anybody can access it easily.  Foodstuffs meant for humans and animals must never be within an accessible range of space to chemicals and must be so properly stored such that even when it slips it must not spill – all opened chemicals must be covered with a polythene and properly screwed to prevent it from spilling even if it slips.
 Above all, we learn better the lesson that there are dangers in a danger.  Chemicals are dangers.  Their effects are dangers.  So we must manage two dangers simultaneously.
Prayer Point:  Father, in all my ventures in life, help me to recognise the dangers of dangers and to successfully manage them so that my destiny be not abruptly terminated in Jesus name.

Do Devotionals Replace the Bible?

Today’s Daily Energiser
 
Bible Text:  “Study this Book of the Law continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed.”

I started with “Our Daily Bread” as far as the ‘70k.  I later added stuffs like  “Open Heavens”,  “Daily Manner”, “Rhapsody of Reality”, “Everyday With Jesus”, plus the recent addition of my “Daily Energiser” at www.dailyenergiser.blogspot.com, Facebook,  Twitter, etc. I have found that Daily Devotionals are very useful tools.  They address specific issues related to our daily living.  I particularly remembered one of “Our Daily Bread” messages that helped me overcome the monster called unforgiveness sometimes ago.  There was this colleague of mine who once seriously embarrassed me so much that I vowed that I would never forgive her.  To actualise my confession, I lodged a formal report to the appropriate authorities for purposes of bringing her to book.  She happened to be the wife (I never knew till then) of one of my very close friends within the organisation. Coming to this realisation during the course of investigating her, honestly did not matter to me because I was very sure I was in the right and bent on revenging. I completely was ignorant of the fact that “vengeance is the Lord’s”.
A panel was set up to dispose of the matter. Having noticed that the outcome of the exercise would surely make her lose her job, some members of the panel appealed to me to forgive her and withdraw the case. I blended stubbornness with humility by politely maintaining my rigid stand not to forgive her, no matter what the outcome would be.   The matter had got to the peak and decision about to be taken.
Then one morning before their decision, I read the topic “To Err is man, To Forgive is Divine”.  The body of the message addressed all the reasons why I must forgive – indeed it was directly addressed to me.  It was then I became conscious that if I failed to forgive my erring sister, I would surely grieve the Holy Spirit.  And on getting to the office same day, I picked up my phone called up the chairman of the panel and told him I was withdrawing the case because I had forgiven her.  Without the “Our Daily Bread” which I read that morning, I would have made a silly mistake as a Christian.  This is how useful devotionals can be but are they self-sufficient for our numerous spiritual daily guidance needs?  Certainly no.  We ought to read more.  The primary source of divine inspiration and motivation is the Holy Bible and if we must succeed in life we must be garner adequate knowledge  (Hosea 4:6) that will lead to understanding and ultimately to wisdom that will make us do the right thing wherever we find ourselves – especially during temptations to sin.  Bible itself makes it clear in Josh.1:8-10 that we must devote our time to study it “day and night” if we are to record good success.
No matter how useful devotionals or other spiritual literatures for that matter may be, they never and will never replace the Bible. Those who wrote them have drawn deep knowledge from the Bible itself so, read your Bible daily to get deeper revelations (Deut.29:29) that can propel you to write devotionals for others just as I do now. It will also enable you to verify what devotional writers are saying from the source of their fountain – the Holy Bible.

Prayer Point: LORD, grant my heart the desire to want to know you more through the reading of your unchangeable manual of life – the Holy Bible - in Jesus’ name.

Bible Text:  “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days a week are set apart for your daily duties and regular work, 10 but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God.”Exod. 20:8
If it were allowed, many of us would have requested for more than a 24-hour day to accomplish the numerous goals we set for ourselves.  But alas, God has pegged it at 24 hours!  Not only that, some of us would have wanted an elongated week that will be more than 7 days.   God has fixed that too.  Many would have preferred that the calendar year be altered and made longer than 365 days but the maximum extension God permitted here is additional one day that made a 366-day leap year!  So God has fixed everything. The reasons are obvious – so we  don’t keep working till we killed ourselves so that we can recount our blessings and failures, re-strategize and have a new beginning.
The Almighty God Himself laid a good example for us on how to use our days by resting on the 7th day.  In six days we shall work and on the 7th day we have to rest and our rest should be to dedicate ourselves to worshipping God exclusively.  It took me so long a time to be on the same page with God in this matter because I was always in haste to leave the church so soon.  But when I became a worker and subsequently, a Pastor and had to attend various meetings after service, nobody taught me to adjust.  Since I resolved to leave Sunday to God, I started enjoying peace with myself.
Many of us still make the mistake to think that Sunday should be shared with God.  It should not be so.  Whether you run from Monday all through to Sunday non-stop does not make you achieve all the goals you have set for yourself.  Therefore Sunday is a day of reflection.  A day to thank God for all you have achieved.  A day to reappraise your relationship with God Almighty and adjust as appropriate.  Let’s cultivate the habit of honouring our Creator, the LORD, and our GOD on Sundays.  Today is one Sunday you must put God first.  No appointment is greater than being with God today! Go to your fellowship centre.

Prayer point:  Father, grant me the grace to accept the reality that I must give my Sundays exclusively to you and bless me as I do so from now on in Jesus’ name.

 Bible Passage: Exodus:12:41 And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.


No reasonable person wants to end up a failure.  But the truth is that success demands PERSEVERANCE.  It took the Israelites to 430 years of perseverance, crying to God every day, many died on the way, many suffered serious setbacks.  Egyptians themselves suffered so serious casualties such that even and their Pharaoh and his chariots as well as their riders perished before the Israelites were delivered.

Travelling from Nigeria to say America by direct flight takes an average of 12 hours of being continuously airborne, patiently waiting enduring all the risks.  Along the way there will be storms that sometimes will make the travellers shiver but once airborne, they have no choice than to endure. (You have no choice than to persist in the voyage of life!)  On very rare occasions, planes do crash and the travellers are wasted!  As the Lord lives, and as you endure in the race of life, your means of transportation to your destiny will not crash in Jesus name.

As a farmer, I know from experience that harvest takes time and sacrifices must be made by the sower.  I know that unfavourable weather conditions, unpredictable market forces, competition, destructions from animals or pests etc might frustrate the expected returns.  Finally all may work well but after harvest, the market may prove impossible and the farmer might lose out.  I have experienced some of these and I have learnt some lessons from them all.

On more than one occasion during my 10 years of call it ‘full-time’ farming, I had lost hectares of successfully cultivated cassava tubers because I did not identify the market on time.  And all those in position to help out turned down my bids.  Ironically one of them in particular harvested my farms without my consent and without paying me a dime – I forgive him and may God do likewise to him too him! After eight years of losing, with persistence coupled with taking good counsel from my young, non-biological daughter whom God had sent to show me where my unlimited market is, I overcame.  I had lost serious money as a Garri producer because the market determined the price.   For instance we produce a congo of garri at the cost of approximately N216 but the market forced us to sell it at N100!  People might even think that Garri producers are making money now when Congo (approximately 1.3kg) measure of Garri now costs between N150 and N180 whereas we are still sustaining a loss of between N36-N66  per Congo!  Yet my spirit tells me, “persist” and I remain obedient to that voice believing that one day my expected breakthrough shall come.  I amuse myself by considering all my losses in garri business as a “subsidy” and welfare for the buyers and that my day of reward is not immediate but on the way.  Dear users of this devotional, you may be losing out in all directions now, but I strongly advise you, persist , for your day of breakthrough is near.  I have discovered also that it is not particularly our hard work that takes care of us.  It is God’s reward for our labours which may not even come directly from our own labours.  Therefore persist as you sow in tears.  Very soon you will reap in JOY.

Prayer point:  Father, help me to remain persistent until my day of breakthrough comes in Jesus’ name.

Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the Lord had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper. 2 And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife. 3 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy … “ 2 Kings 5:1-3

The story of the young girl whom God used to heal Naaman (2 Kings 5:1-5) is real.  I can testify to this by what I experienced with one of my biological daughters recently.  The greatest challenge I had with my years of labour as a Cassava farmer was locating the market.  As a result of lack of knowledge (Hos. 4:6), in this direction, I have had to abandon two ( altogether 8 hectres) farms thereby losing the huge sums of money invested in them.   I was so worried about the third farm that I shared my experience with my young daughter who worked with me on the project and she simply said, “Daddy, I know where you can easily sell your tubers no matter how plenty they may be”.  Like a typical adult I never got convinced so I never acted upon it.  Instead, I decided to opt for processing the tubers into garri. I said to myself, “Now you got it right!”.

But I discovered to my surprise that the size of the farm that was ready for processing was far too much for our installed production capacity. It is therefore imminent that I was going to lose the better part of the investment again!   My daughter again said to me, “Daddy, I have told you several times to let us try this market that I mentioned to you. If you can’t go, hire a vehicle for me I will go.“ This time around, I humbled myself and agreed with her. The first trip she made was a huge success. She returned with the full money for everything she took down to the market before 9 a.m. the following day.  It was like a dream to me but I was motivated to send her again the second time.  The same thing happened.  Suddenly we discovered the vehicle we were using was too small.  Then she said, “Daddy, let me do two trips a day” I allowed her.  Before 9 a.m. the following day again, she had completed the two runs and returned home with the full money!  Within one month, all our tubers had turned to cash!  We sold so much that we now struggle to have something left for garri production!  Now through my daughter, I discovered I have unlimited market for my present and future products just because I listened to a good counsel from her.

Dear user of this devotional please note that that little child (biological or non-biological) beside you may be your angel and solution provider for all your years of labour.  Your wife, your friend whose advice you have always jettisoned because of overfamiliarity may be the person to lead you to your breakthrough.  Why not come down from your ivory tower, treat them well, draw him or her closer, tell them your challenges and listen to, consider and act on their counsel no matter how childish they may be.

Prayer point:  Father, from now onwards give me a humble heart to treat everyone around me well to provoke my own breakthrough in Jesus name.

It’s Time To Grow Up 

Bible Text: Rom. 7:14-25

“If there’s this sin in one’s life that keeps on recurring and one keeps asking for forgiveness all the time yet it still continues to recur, what can one do?”

First I congratulate you because there’s the consciousness in you not to sin.  It is an evidence of the fact that you are not a lackadaisical Christian.  All serious-minded, born again Christians face the same challenge no matter their level in Christianity.   This writer is not excluded himself! Before we become born again, our patterns of life did not matter to us.  We could freely abuse people, steal, gossip, commit sexual immorality or decide not to forgive those who offended us.  We could falsify records anywhere we found ourselves. Some of us could even steal church money and do all those things Gal. 5:19-20 asked us not to do.  We would never be bothered at all that we did all these things! Indeed we would encourage others to do it.

However, once we become born again and we now partner with God in fellowshipping, bible study and trying to do what God told us to do, we begin to mirror our lives with the provisions of the Bible.  Most often, we would discover that there are still some elements of the old sins we are struggling with.     Hear what Paul said in Rom. 7:18-19 “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do…”    

The way out of this quagmire is to partner with God the more by studying the word of God, (Josh. 1:8) and endeavouring to do what it says, pray for deliverance Matt: 7:7, and identify the cause of the temptations and stay away from them.  The more of the word of God we know, the more we will be strengthened by them.  The more we ask God to help us the more the consciousness not to sin will come and the more we pray to God, closer will we draw to overcoming the challenges.  In other words, the more we are busy with God, the less our attention will focus on sins.

Prayer Point:  Oh Lord, I have no strength of my own, let your spirit control my life so I can abstain from these (name them) recurring sins in my life in Jesus’ name.  

Are You Heaven Bound?

Our primary goals should be to make heaven, not to be worldly inclined. Yes, we need to eat, drink cloth, shelter and have some luxuries of life but the greatest goal for a believer   heaven. 

The path to heaven is very narrow.  It consists of thorns.  It requires sacrifices.  It requires endurance. It requires doing things that ordinarily won’t make sense logically.  The most important requirement to make heaven is be a saint according to Psa. 1:1-3, "... the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with scoffers. But they delight in doing everything the Lord wants;day and night they think about his law.They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season without fail.Their leaves never wither,

and in all they do, they prosper.”.  Saints will succeed here on earth and make heaven in the end.  Let your ways please the Lord.    

Contend Not with Your Destiny

 “Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty0three when they spoke to Pharaoh”.  Exod. 7:17

Contend not with your destiny.   If you do, you will surely fail.  Note that when God wants to choose a leader, He chooses whom He wills.  David was too junior to be reckoned with by his people, yet God chose him to be their leader.  Esther was too junior to Mordecai.  She was of no repute but God chose this young girl to save Israel. Naaman and his family were far too big over the little girl that God used to heal the leprous Naaman. Miriam and Aaron were older than Moses but God chose Moses, a stammerer to lead Israelites out of Egypt.  Esau was older than Jacob but God preferred Jacob to Esau. 

No matter your calendar age, God may have chosen your younger brother or sister as a spiritual or temporal leader over you. Calendar year has no relevance when it gets to God using one to accomplish a particular purpose.  We all must have humble hearts and deep understanding to accept whoever the Lord has chosen to lead us in the church, in our offices,at home, in our churches or wherever we find ourselves.  When you envy your younger brother or sister because of you are older than him or her by calendar age, you may be destroying yourself.  Miriam and Aaron did it.  Aaron was repentant, Miriam showed no remorse and God forgave Aaron but punished Miriam.  That’s just it. When God has appointed somebody over us all we need is to cooperate with that person to achieve God’s purpose for his life. Such a person will be a blessing rather than a curse to us.  Aaron reigned with Moses throughout. So he succeeded just as Moses, the leader did. That’s what it takes to be humble.   Joseph’s father and all his brethren bowed down to the former because God has ordained it to be so.  After all, Joseph’s father once asked, “Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?” At long last, they all did bow down to Joseph one after the other!

Stop courting trouble by being proud.  Instead, lay aside your pride. Recognised whoever God has placed in authority over you. Assist and cooperate with them. Their stars will shine. Yours will shine along.  Whoever that person may be (your child, your wife, your boss in the office, your parents, your sibling, your very junior Pastor, ) as the Lord lives may He grant you the humble spirit to submit to whoever is in authority over you in Jesus name.  May the destiny of your leader not destroy God’s purpose for your life in Jesus name. 

When God is Ready, He is Unstoppable

“Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will free you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with mighty power and great acts of judgment. I will make you my own special people, and I will be your God. And you will know that I am the Lord your God who has rescued you from your slavery in Egypt.  I will bring you into the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It will be your very own property. I am the Lord!” So Moses told the people what the Lord had said, but they wouldn’t listen anymore. They had become too discouraged by the increasing burden of their slavery.  Exod. 6:6-9

When God is ready to do something, He is unstoppable. In our pursuits of success in whatever endeavours we choose, we often meet with brick walls.  These often lead us to discouragement and most often, as Christians, we tend to unbelief.  God was the one who promised Abraham a child but was not ready to give him that child when it was logical to do so.  So Abraham tarried till his patience was exhausted and he and his wife were sure it would not happen.  Abraham’s was old and his libido had expired.  He made sure that Sarah had reached menopause so logically, there was no hope for her.  But when God was ready for the couple He personally visited them  (Gen. 18:1-14), in spite of their unbelief and logical conviction that they would never have a biological child of their own. 

One of the greatest miracles of my life as far as becoming a University Graduate is concerned is that, logically speaking, I never would have accomplished that goal. All those who would have sponsored me were there, attempted to do so, but God never permitted them to do so.    When His appointed time came, he led me by Himself, he made me to sponsor myself from Primary six till I graduated at the age of 46 years and one year later, I was called to the Nigerian Bar!  Along the line whenever I lacked support, because His appointed time was come, he appointed external helpers to support me. (I was consistently angry with all the helpers I had hoped would help me) until, when after graduation I asked God why did You not allow these people to help me? His reply was “I did so because I did not wantto share my glory with anybody!”. Some events happened later that I took a decision about my life that went contrary to the expectation of those I expected to help me.  Then God reminded me of what He had said.  So if He had permitted those people, they would have not claim the glory for sponsoring me but would have considered me an ingrate! I pray for the reader of this devotional that at His appointed time, God will visit your situation in Jesus name. 

When God is ready, it does not matter whether one has been discouraged or no longer believes in Him.  Indeed God does not open the way until “all other roads are closed”.  Then will just arise and proceed and do what He wants to do in His own miraculous way.  He will also remove all obstacles.  Are you discouraged or have lost faith?  Your discouragement or unbelief will not stop or prevent God from answering your prayers when His appointed time has come in Jesus’ name. All your frustrations shall turn to miraculous breakthroughs that will be too big to hide in Jesus name. 

When God is ready, He guides our behaviour.  Abraham could have seen but not attended to Trinity.  But God guided him and he did because his appointed time to be blessed had come.  Sarah (laughed in unbelief), yet she cooperated with Abraham to cook and entertain Trinity. So the duo PROVOKED God’s miracle for their lives.  When your appointed time has come, you will not make any mistake.  Instead, your response shall provoke your miracles in Jesus’ name. 

God’s appointed time for you to be attended to concerning that sorrowful aspect of your life which gives you concern is nearer than you ever think it can be, It is true you are discouraged and don’t even believe God can do it again, but  I assure you that you will neither die nor make a mistake when He comes.  You will surely laugh last because your delayed Isaac will come.  Your deferred graduation, marriage, career opportunities will come in Jesus name.  God bless you in Jesus’ name.

DONALD TRUM v. JUSTICE

The word “corrupt” has been defined Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, 8th edition to mean, 1.  “(of people) willing to use their power to do dishonest or illegal things in return for money or to get an advantage  2. ( of behaviour ) dishonest or immoral.”.

A critical appraisal of these two definitions shows that corruption whether in formal or informal settings people engaging in dishonest or illegal in return for money or to get an advantage.  To be corrupt means to be immoral.  The foundation of morality is ‘rightness’ or ‘wrongness’.

Morality is not necessarily legal because what is legal may be moral anyway. After all, gay marriage is legal in Americas but it does not agree with the tennets of morality.

 In law, plea bargaining is legal in America but it is not moral.  It is simply encouraging the thief to steal more and give back what he feels like giving after much (unnecessary) persuasion.  Statute-baring a creditor from collecting money owed him is legal but it does not appeal to good conscience which equity represents and it is at variance with morality.  Let whoever owes pay unless the creditor forgives the loan!  No wonder, when the technicalities of the law started breeding injustice, equity was born to appeal to people’s sense of morality in justice reflecting  fairness,  recognising what is good or bad.

As student of Law at the University, I became angry with the Law when I saw the human-invented  ‘technicalities’ of the law which tended to provoke injustice instead of justice but when I was introduced to equity, I was at appeased.   That’s why to me, justice that does not appeal to the good conscience (equity) or has no toga of moral content is not a true justice.

Colonisation in whatever form is, to me criminal.  It is immoral.  It is injustice.  Two wrongs, they say, cannot make a right.  This points me to the review of the utterances (and intentions) of American’s Presidential hopefuls – Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.  Donal Trump is (rightly) angry with corruption  but his planned strategy to fight it by singling out Africans, particularly Nigerians for “Re-colonisation”.  A concept which in itself is obsolete, absurd, illegal and immoral such that a mere thought of it might portray him as corrupt.

There’s nothing wrong with being angry with ‘wrong doing’ like corruption.  But the means by which it is addressed must never be worse than what is being addressed.  It will amount to two wrongs that will never produce a ‘right’.  No matter how you add them up, immorality or illegality with immorality or illegality cannot amount to morality or legality.  No rational human being should ever give a flash of thought to re-colonisation no matter how angry he may be.  Re-colonisation is like drawing back the hands of the clock.  A negative thought of this nature should not be coming from America, an enlightened American of Donald’s stature.

The America that I know is a country known for justice.  It is therefore not from America we should have somebody preaching injustice.  America has been regarded as a home to everybody and when I visited there a few times, I confirmed the warmness of Americans.

America is a united world that should have no room for discrimination.  If the entire world collapses and America is spared, the world would re-emerge perfectly through her.  Men have dominated the Presidency of America.  It is morality, equity and justice that influenced the Democrats to want to correct the balance the male-female dichotomy by featuring Hillary Clinton so we can for once have a Woman President.  It is an attempt to nail corruption in the bud that made the Democrats to produce Obama (a mixed-blood) as President of America  thereby making the black and white to melt together as one which in itself is legal and moral.   This same process will one day surely produce full-blooded black men or women as the President of America if only people like Donald will do a rethink.  If he or people of like-mind as Donald should rule America, America will surely lose her glory!

Hillary Clinton is known to be even headed, humble,with no iota of discrimination.  People like Hillary will not only move America forward but will bring about a new world order that will promote America as a complete world where there is no discrimination.  My prayer is that God Almighty will guide America and Americans such that they will not make the mistake that will end up reversing all the advancements America has achieved.  If All Africans are evicted from America, some who have forgotten their origins may suffer some setbacks but in the final analysis, they will settle down.  The wise majority will have no problems returning home at all because sweet as America may be, they never forgot their origins.  I am a Nigerian but I love America as I love Nigeria.  Let all Americans (black, white, etc) unite to ensure America remains a home for all by voting for the right candidate.   If Donald Trum must lead America, he must reconsider his thoughts on the black race and change his strategy by embracing every human being.  As far as am concerned, America has gone beyond his present thinking and postulations.   Long live America, Long live Americans, long live Nigerians, long live the black  and all races all over the world.  Black or white, we are all from Adam and Eve and should remain together till eternity!

Temptations , the Mother of All Sins (2)
“Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence.  God observed all this corruption in the world, for EVERYONE ON EARTH (emphasis mine) was corrupt. “ Gen. 6:12.
As far as corruption is concerned, everyone is involved in it. Rom. 3:23 confirms this when it says “For ALL have sinned and have come short of the glory of God”.  It is the nature and magnitude of corruption that differs.  A man who cheats on his wife, a man or woman who falsifies records in his office, a business what side-tracks tax laws, a generator seller who will not want to see uninterrupted power supply successfully implemented, a child who lies, a lazy student who relies of “expo” to succeed in his examinations, a lecturer or a boss who demands sex for success in examination or promotion to higher levels, a pastor who steals church money or says “the Lord sayeth” when the Lord has actually not spoken,  the latest of it all, the Dansuki Gate,  Padding the budget, or a young man or girl who takes to political thuggery as a way to survive  and so on, are all corrupt.
 When a man is corrupt, 2 Pet 1:4 makes it clear that it is the desire of his heart that causes it  “… the word’s corruption caused by human desires”.  Every corruption is preceded by temptation to manipulate a situation to suit us whether it is God’s will for us or not.  When our desires comes, it takes over everything.  We don’t want to know what God says or wants us to do.  I once approached a man on a Sunday morning to minister to him.  He welcomed me well.  After our exchange, he held his cup of beer and  said “Pastor, pray for me.  The only problem I have is my desire for alcohol.  I just found it rather difficult to drop this cup.  I know I am a prophet  by nature but this object (alcohol) is my problem.”  I did tell him, why not join drop this cup now and let’s go to church? He said, it is difficult to do.  I said drop it now, go to church and pray.  There’s no point praying for you in this beer parlour because you won’t be able to drop the cup.  He would follow me. Amazingly, the while I was returning from the church on a New Year’s eve, I came across him and he gave me a prophesy with a specific date of its happening – 15th of February.  And on that day the prophesy came to pass!
Even though we are all prophets, the negative desires of our hearts made it impossible for us all to “drop our cups” so we fall most times.  I, preaching to you am not exempted from this vile just as Paul confessed “what I don’t like to do, I do” and Jesus said (in his fleshy state) “if it were possible, remove this cup from me”.  He rejected death which is God’s will for him.  It was God who helped him accomplish his goal of salvation for us all.  The desire to live made Abraham lie to the King.
The antidote to temptation remains that we should live and walk with God and be in spirit always. It is the spirit of the Lord that will create the fear of the Lord (Prov. 1:7) in our hearts like Joseph who said “why must I commit this sin against my God?”.  I know it is tough to face temptations and resist it when our hearts desires want it. But with God (Luke 1:37) all things are possible.  Stay with God today and overcome temptations! God bless you in Jesus name.  Prayer Point: Father, grant me the grace to walk with you from today in Jesus name.

Temptation, the Mother of All Sins

According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, to “tempt”, means, “to attract somebody or make somebody want to do or have something, even if they know it is wrong.”

Temptations started from the heavens! “Morning Star” (now Satan) was tempted to overthrow God Almighty because he wanted to promote himself above his leader – the Almighty God.  He fell.  He was thrown into planet earth.  Adam and Eve were tempted (Gen.3:1-6) to eat the forbidden fruit.  And they fell.  Moses was tempted by the stiff-necked people to be angry to the point that Satan could dare struggle to have his soul for possession. Jesus Christ our Lord was tempted by Satan to bow down for him so he could be king over all the earth.  He overcame Satan.

We all know that alcohol, sexual immorality, corruption of any kind is bad but the spirit of temptations blurs our understanding because of the pleasure we want to derive from our misdeed.  For one to be tempted, there is an expectation behind it.  The goal of Satan was to overthrow the Almighty God.  The goal of Adam and Eve was to be wiser than God had permitted them.  The goal of Satan was to prevent Jesus from accomplishing his predestined goal of salvation for mankind.  

One thing is sure, there’s no sin that is not preceded by ‘temptation’; therefore temptation is gives birth to all sins.  And nobody is exempted from being tempted.  However, our response to every temptation is what determines its outcome we obtain.  When faced with temptations, two options are constantly open to us: to reject the urge or obey it, each having its own consequences.  

No wonder the Bible commands us to ‘flee from all appearances of sin”.  To flee from it is the best option but there are invisible forces that makes it a serious burden to flee instead most often, we fall.  The constant consequence of falling into sins is regret and sorrow.  We know that what we are about to do is wrong albeit we are lured into doing it then facing the negative consequences. 

Yes, James 4:7 admonishes us to resist the devil for him to flee from us, but the truth is that no man can resist the devil by his own power but by the Spirit of the Lord.  That’s why to avoid temptation we must be constantly operating in the spirit so that we can identify sins and nip them in the bud as they arise.  Move closer to God today and overcome the tempter and his temptations! I pray for you that God will make it easy for you to be closer and closer to Him so you can overcome all temptations in Jesus’ name.
