Conflict of Interest

No organisation wants disloyal

and corrupt employees

So it ab initio makes employees

To sign a conflict of interest document

Unfortunately majority of employees

Invariably misinterpret such document

To limit or eliminate investment

In their own future

Or prohibit them

From setting up their own businesses

This is a wrong notion or assumption

That will neither compete nor conflict

With their employment or employer

To be sure to avoid such situation

Employees should skip businesses

That deal directly or indirectly

With their employers

Either as Suppliers or Contractors.

Discover or

Invent Something

Yes, Bill Gates,

With his computers

Has captured the globe

The Wright brothers

Put the airplane in the air

The ships sail majestically in the oceans

The automobiles cruise about

On the highways

The calculators,

The palmtops,

The handhelds

And all the gadgets

Have synchronized together

Our private and official lives

To the little-minded therefore

All these inventions suggests

An end to further development or invention

I can assure you

There are still uncountable ideas undiscovered

And to be invented

That will make the discoverer stand out

As Bill Gates, the current champion!

 Think of one, work on it,

And bring it to the market place

Whatever you come up with

Your potential customers are waiting

Ready to pay for it, any day, any time

So your greatness awaits you

Just try your hand at it.

Everybody, including the writer

Owes you some money

So, you, everybody

Some money

So your wealth is in my hands

While mine is in yours

But the immutable law says:

Unless I give you something of value

And you do same to me,

We will not exchange the monies

between us!

This supports the Biblical command

That when you give,

In return, you receive

Good measure, pressed down

And running over.

Even in the house of God

where salvation is inherently free

The people of God

still need to pay a price –

forgoing their old odd ways

And embrace Christ,

Showing mercy, devotion and love

And in return receiving salvation,

Forgiveness, prosperity, peace and joy

So to deny the law

Of sowing and harvesting

Is a big lie

So begin now to add value

To the lives of others

And thereby increase the value

Of your own life!

Polygamy is a Snare, if caught by it what do you do?

Polygamy

And Women

Polygamy, though permissible culturally

Is not the best thing

To happen to anybody

If, however, as a woman

You are ensnared in it,

How would you live it?

Would you follow the ancient

(And now deadly modernized) route

Of leaving the substance

And chasing the shadows?

Would  you engage yourself

In such destiny busters

As quarreling with your rivals,

Setting your children against theirs,

Going for magical means

To win your husband to your side

Or worse still

Engaging yourself, praying for nothing else

But for God to help

Kill your rivals - envying?

Or would you, in humility and wisdom,

Do what Daddy Adeboye’s Mum did

When in a similar situation

In a polygamous setting?

Read what she did:

While the other women busied

Fighting their husband,

Daddy Adeboye’s Mom rather

Praised the man

For being ‘brave, kind, etc’

When her mates

Were mocking their husband

About his weaknesses,

Daddy’s mummy insisted on

Re-echoing,  to his hearing, his strengths

His redoubtable exploits!

Proclaiming her husband

As the best man

God ever created!

Where the wives demonstrated

How tough they could be

To their husband,

Daddy’s Mum dealt lovingly

With her husband

Never challenging his authority!

For those reasons,

She was able to get

The best attention possible

From her husband

She was able to bring her children

close to their father

Instead of distancing them

Today, one of her own

Has ended up being a great pillar

in the world.

In humility too, he calls himself

Simply “a Pastor”

But Presidents, Governors, Ministers,

The high and mighty of society

Call him Daddy, Bishop, Prophet!

Christendom sees him righteously

A true man of God,

A man whose early aspiration

Was to become the youngest Vice Chancellor of a University

Has now been promoted by God

To establish a University!

If old Mum, Adeboye,

Had not displayed

A rare wisdom

In her polygamous home

It is possible

She would have lost this genius

To the bickering and infighting

That usually characterise

The polygamous family!

Women in polygamy,

Choose ye this day

Who your mentor would be

But I dare recommend to you

Daddy Adeboye’s Mom

And reap the benefits

Of her humility and wisdom

With which she tackled and untangled

The knotty webs of polygamy

She had stooped to conquer

Why can’t you?

Obama's Mother, A Lesson to Womahood.

"He who findeth a wife fideth a good thing and favour from God"

"Only few African mothers, especially those in polygamous homes, would do just that - leave the fates of their children in the hands of God to determine rather than manipulate them."

We all, especially Africans, hailed the ascendancy of President Barak Obama to the Presidency of the United States of America but not many realised the greatest lessons to learn from how he came to power.

In the life of President Barak Obama, humanity is reminded of a certain unchanging principle of life. The principle is that all of us but women in particular should “do our best and leave everything about our children’s fate in the hands of God. The same lessons go for our children's education, career, marriage, parenting, etc.

Obama’s father, a man from Kenya found his way to America years back. He did what an average African would do – get hooked to an American lady? For one reason or the other, the marriage did not work. So there was a divorce. But there were links that could not be broken, their children. Somewhere along the line, Obama died. That was enough to deal a permanent blow to the linkage of young Obamas with their Kenyan roots.

But alas, like the Biblical Ruth, their mother left them to freely relate with their 'rich' African heritage. This is not withstanding the fact that their biological grandmother in particular, was dead. Lady Obama threw young Obama into the mouths of what an average African woman would call “lions in their den”, thereby exposing her children to ‘maximum’ risk imaginable on planet earth.

Young Obamas in their innocency enjoyed the whole drama. And God kept them safe! Today, in spite of the deadly exposures, Barak Obama has become the first Black-American President!

This is a lesson to our over-protective but would they not rather rejoice and cite the example of Obama without the willingness to take the risks his mother took? Only few African mothers, especially those in polygamous homes, would do just that - leave the fates of their children in the hands of God to determine rather than manipulate them. Also, whether by design or default, Obama’s father found a good woman albeit, in a distant land just as Ruth was to Israelites such that even in death, God’s name is glorified through him. Again, an African couples take divorce as the end of a relationship but the Obama’s, especially the woman who ought not to forgive saw it the other way round. Today her name is recorded in history as the “Ruth of our time”! Obama’s mother, like the biblical Ruth, is a lesson to W O M A N H O O D! .

"Now that women are on the same level, they want the control of their bodies - that was the birth of radical feminism in which women decided that they are so independent and they don’t need to marry. It even affected the way they dress, they are wearing trousers now. There was this era in which women decided to have their children without men. They got to the stage of getting married to women and not men. At that stage, feminism became ridiculous and I see it as even more than ridiculous, it’s no longer self-respecting. "

"Flora Nwakpa denied being a feminist, Buchi Emecheta said she is a feminist with a small eye. Zaynab Alkali too has not said she is not a feminist. I know that there are three categories of feminism, when I studied feminism, I took it from the 16th Century up to date and I know that feminism underwent transformation. It began as an advocacy for female rights and it would educate you about how feminism was practised from the 16th to the 18th Century, in the west.

Women in the south were not allowed to vote. When they work in the mines or anywhere in the factories, they were paid less even though the jobs they did were the same with men. Women were not allowed contraceptives. So a woman who marries at the age of 20 by the time she is 40 or 45 could have about 15 children even at the risk of a failing health. Women were not allowed to study Medicine, Engineering and Law. They were only allowed to study Nursing, Teaching, House keeping, Sewing, among others, so that they can serve the men. Women at this stage have genuine cause, then as the struggle moved to the 18th Century and by the time it moved to the 20th Century, women were able to acquire all those rights. They came on the same path with men. As far as I am concerned, feminism should have stopped at the 20th Century but it did not.

Now that women are on the same level, they want the control of their bodies - that was the birth of radical feminism in which women decided that they are so independent and they don’t need to marry. It even affected the way they dress, they are wearing trousers now. There was this era in which women decided to have their children without men. They got to the stage of getting married to women and not men. At that stage, feminism became ridiculous and I see it as even more than ridiculous, it’s no longer self-respecting. So if you ask me if am a feminist? I would say no. I am not a feminist from the 20 and 21 centuries. I have no objection to human rights and socialist feminism. Here in Nigeria or in Africa, the problems that have been outlined for the 16th to 20th Century feminism are not applicable to us. I have never worked in a place where a man was paid N20,000 and I was paid N10,000 for the same job. I have never been denied my voting rights. I have never been denied studying professional courses.

So what are we talking about? Even religion has given women the rights. The problem we have is just the implementation of these rights. When I talk like this, the feminists would say Zaynab has thrown sand into the feminist garri."  The Sun, 14th Jan. 2010

The Brevity of Life

"You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.  My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath!" Psalm 39: 5 

  

One day,an Uncle of the writer suddenly realised that he has become an elderly man and in a quick flash said “life is too short!”.  Ever since then I’ve been meditating over that statement and even now and then its meaning becomes clearer and clearer to me.  I related it to all the young children we started life together but who have since departed at one point or the other.  I related it to my parents who seemed to me to have  lived long, each of them spending not less than 85 years.  I related it to my self, the last born of my mother who have suddenly turned 52 years!  I was at our old farm and recalled the huge population of both young and elderly people in the community with whom we all related in the farms in the entire 60’s and I see them no more.  Then I related it to the Biblical stories of great and low men and women who have lived before us and are now remembered only by history!  Then I asked myself “where are they?  Will they ever come back? Can we still have a repeat of the old good days?” 

Out of my 52 completed years of sojourn, I laboured for 34 years consistently in the lowest as well as the highest industries. But today, in retirement, I reflected, I've become history in all those organisations!  I started life clinging to my mother, later I became independent.  I started my independent life by squatting with an uncle, then I rented a 'windowless' next-to-the-toilet boys quarter at the remote quarters of Balogun Street, Oshodi, from there I migrated to Mafoluku, then to Orile Iganmu, then to Ijeshatedo then to Iba then to Isolo then to Gbagada then completely out of Lagos as a Landlord!  Then I wrote the account of my life titled Better Tomorrow and gave it to humanity to read so they can learn of the goodness of God and be encouraged to paddle to determinedly paddle the canoes of their life.  Gradually, I thought about the vanity of life and considered what next should I do - unite my family to Christ and to dedicate my entire days to God! I'm on that journey, every other activity is part-time! 

I needed education.  Day and night I laboured. God crowned all my efforts with good success.  A primary six school certificate holder, became a Graduate, then ended up being a member of the prestigious Nigerian Bar Association!  

But alas! All that is history.  Yet, no matter how long we live, we shall all ‘disappear’ one day.  Life is truly brief.  We need to just try to moderately enjoy ourselves in the fear of the Lord during our own 'brief moment' in it.  Food for thought!  Life is but a shadow!

Is Polygamy Good?

In the last two pages of my book

“A Gallery of Positive Thoughts (1^st Edition),

I stated that polygamy itself

Is not necessarily the bane

Of our polygamous homes

Rather, it is lack of love ,

And I used my home

Where peace and love reigns,

To support my claim

There have been genuine reactions

From some readers of the book.

Seeking clarification

As to whether I was

An apostle of polygamy

In the modern day setting

My answer is “No”.

That is far from my intention

What I am and was saying

Is that those of us

Who inherited polygamy

Or those who inevitably

Found themselves in it

Should ensure

That they do not

Because of the circumstance

In which they found themselves

Distract themselves

From pursing the positive pursuits of life

Or even kill themselves

Polygamy is a destiny buster

Which no sensible person

Will allow to destroy his or her life.

The way out is to manage it with love,

Thereby avoiding

Or escaping the calamities

That are associated with it.

(Excluding those who unavoidably

Found themselves in it),

Polygamy in today’s world

Amounts to stupidity

Today’s value system emphasizes it.

Good fathers now only produce

The number of children

They can cater for

The kitchen is no longer

A woman’s full occupation

And from the menial jobs

To highly paid ones

No reasonable child

Is interested in inheriting bare lands

Because ‘trouble’

Is often the greatest asset polygamy breeds

That’s why, imperatively,

Modern-day women

dread polygamy

It’s the desire

Of a reasonable modern day

average family

To lift itself

Far above the poverty level

A man’s income alone

Is now insufficient

For his household needs

Therefore anyone

who dabbles into polygamy

Is not only living in the past,

courting disaster!

He is the greatest enemy

Of himself!
