You can be hypnotised too!

"On my way home, the spirit of God started to reveal pieces of wisdom to me.  First, He referred me to the book of Mark:8.36 which says, “For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” (MKJV)  Then I recalled another Bible passage about the fact that it is only “God that blesses and adds no sorrow to it...”.

If you are without knowledge, you can be easily fooled without remedy.  But if you are knowledgeable, attempts will be made to fool you but your knowledge will set you free. Below is the writer's  personal experience in this regard :

"...About two years later, on my way from school one afternoon, I sighted Alhaji on the other side of  Bolade Bus Stop and hailed him. He was very glad to see me again and immediately invited me to his new house.  I obliged him and we arrived at a one-storied building in a street not far away from the point of our recent meeting.  We then climbed upstairs and he opened the door leading into the sitting room where he welcomed me.
But it was not a normal sitting room because it was filled with some very voluminous Arabic Books, a mat, a huge bowl filled with beach sand, a row of assorted perfumes and all sorts of other things that conjured bizarre thoughts within me!
I was indeed shocked but I kept quiet even in the realization that I was in for some trouble. Alhaji seemed to discern my uneasiness and tried to allay my growing fears.  He assured me that as a father, he would only want to help me.  He boasted of big names he had already helped to became rich in life.  He dropped such names as the Abiolas, the Dantatas and a host of other very prominent people in the society.
Then he requested for some money to buy some perfumes with which he wanted to do something for me.  At this point, I was no longer myself.  I plaintively informed him that I was in fact looking for my school fees and that I had little or nothing on me.  However, I searched my pockets and found a little amount which was just enough to buy the perfumes. Painfully, I gave it to Alhaji. He opened one of his stock of perfumes and poured its contents into my palms.  He advised me to rub the liquid on my face, hands and body.  I did as he commanded willy nilly.
Next, he took out one of the big Arabic books, tore off a piece of a plain sheet of paper, folded it and enclosed it between the pages of the book. He then asked me to kneel down and pray for whatever I wanted. I prayed my desires, albeit, in Jesus' name.  To him, the mode and language of the prayer did not matter.
After my prayers, he opened the book and brought out the same plain sheet of paper he had inserted into the Arabic book in my presence.  Lo and behold, the paper replicated everything I had uttered in my silent prayers  in black and white!  It was in very beautiful scripting and in my actual words!  Besides, on the same page metamorphorsed a beautiful talismanic ring. A detail of the magical facsimile informed me that all I requested had been granted. The actual requests were spelt out.  I had no problem with that verisimilitude because I had prayed in Jesus' name.
But these disclosures were shackled with conditions and claims I must accept in my life thenceforth following God's favours I had apparently been granted. It was at this point that the knowledge of the word of God concerning temptations quickly came to my mind to rescue me!
The first condition was that I should thereafter regard Alhaji as my god and that his words would be binding on me. I would worship his spirit too.
My immediate spiritual reaction was a silent recitation of the Bible passage in Exodus 20:3 which states: “You shall have no other gods before me”.  So I stood on the ground that the demand of this so-called spirit negated the will of God in Exodus 20.5, which says, “You shall not bow yourself down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God..”
The next hurdle was the claim of the devil-writer that he was a spirit in the River Mississipi (USA).  My canceling reaction: the claim ran counter to Exo. 20:4 which says: “You shall not make to yourselves any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth, or that is in the water under the earth.”

Condition 3.  I was required to provide a ram for a sacrifice that would be carried out in the night at the Bar Beach, Lagos.
My reaction:  Sacrifices belonged to the Old Testament times. Jesus Christ has completed every form of sacrifice we needed to perform with his blood. In the Book of Jn. 19:30, the Lord Jesus says, “it is finished!” (MKJV)
Condition 4.  The miracle ring that sprung out of the process would be released to me to wear protectively always.  This requirement was contrary to church practice where only marital rings were worn.  Besides, I was too visible as a member of the Choir to be seen suddenly to be wearing a peculiar ring. How would I explain it to my Pastor and fellow choristers?
As I ruminated, the Alhaji was exhorting me to take advantage of the 'golden' opportunity, otherwise, I would risk sudden death.
Poverty Sets Me Free!

For once, my enemy seemed to be in agreement with me!  This is because my escape route lay in the fact that I had no immediate financial capacity to carry out other concomitant requirements to fit into Alhaji's coven of converts, and I told him so.  But he urged me to go to wherever I could raise the money and assured me that, in no time, I would be able to repay it.
As my self-assurance returned, I took the window of opportunity that this opened and agreed to go look for the required money, promising to return later to accomplish the final initiation!
On my way home, the spirit of God started to reveal pieces of wisdom to me.  First, He referred me to the book of Mark:8.36 which says, “For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” (MKJV)  Then I recalled another Bible passage about the fact that it is only “God that blesses and adds no sorrow to it”.
Then the Spirit reminded me of my past covenants with God (truly I had some, many of which were surprisingly also re-echoed in the magic letter!) and of how God had consistently helped me.  Why should I then suddenly turn against Him?  Besides, I should review the life of the Alhaji himself. If he was as capable as he then claimed, why was he unable to have babies from his first wife?
With such resurgent thoughts, I was sure that I did not need Alhaji's help for what God wanted me to become in life.
But the threat of sudden death, should I fail to go back to Alhaji, still nagged me!   Although I was then not conversant with Psa. 118:17 which says “I shall not die, but live and declare the works of the Lord” (MKJV), I resorted to Esther's courageous and defiant spirit: “if I perish, I perish” (Est. 4:16) (MKJV).  And I never went back to Alhaji,  the agent of the Devil!
In the spirit and aftermath of the foregoing encounter, I wish to commend Jesus Christ to  my readers who are yet to accept Him as their personal Lord and saviour to do so because only He can see us through the temptations of life and lead us to fulfill our God-ordained destiny. To have a foreknowledge of the word is to be battle-ready at all times.

My Country, A Friend or A Foe?

There's nothing I laid my hands upon that Nigeria has not done everything within her capacity to frustrate, including the efforts at aimed regularly posting  this Daily Energiser to encourage fellow citizens of the world to be positive-minded.

I am a Nigerian and am contented to be because God does not make mistakes in whatever He does.

Nigeria is good, just as no single segment of planet world is itself bad because whatever God does is perfect.  From my younger years till now, going to 53 years of age, I still continue to wonder if Nigeria is not the biblical land of Canaan which flows with milk and honey.

Every GOOD parent caters for their children at least so that the latter's lives can be better than the former.  Good parents realise that life should unnegotiably be better for their off springs.  So they endeavour to ensure that they take adequate care of them. by providing good food, shelter, education, medical care etc.  More importantly good parents create an atmosphere of love that make their off springs feel like achieving their goals in life. In return their children love them too.

Like biological parents, every country is a parent to her citizens.  The level of care that the country takes of her children will determine the level of love her citizens will reciprocally give back to it.

Many Nigerians are checking out of the country today not because they do not love their motherland but because their motherland has thrown them into the lion's den for the lions to feast upon.  And these other countries are do so without looking back.

When I reflected about my own life, I surely know that God has continuously blessed me but Nigeria has treated me so callously that I sometimes feel that those who travelled abroad (even if to suffer) cannot be blamed.  There's nothing I laid my hands upon that Nigeria has not done everything within her capacity to frustrate, including the efforts at aimed regularly posting  this Daily Energiser to encourage fellow citizens of the world to be positive-minded.   For a few days now, even though I have been subscribing to IPNX, Multilinks, Zain, MTN, Glo, STARCOMMS, O'Net, DOPC, and name all the notable internet service providers in Nigeria, all of them (except IPNX whose coverage is still scanty and which at least if only through communication, has tried to be different from the rest) have  failed to deliver.  Whereas, when I had opportunity to travel outside of Nigeria to the United States of America, my laptop picked up internet signals FREE throughout my stay there.  While in the UK, I paid but for service rendered!  Each time I look at the various useless but very expensive modems that adore all corners of my home and office, I regret being a Nigerian.  Can I blame these companies? No  doubt there may be human lapses here and here, but the environment in which these 'humans' work will make it at least partially unfair for me to tag them all as 'sinners'.  If I had to power my tiny internet model with genset, how much more hardship do these service providers endure as they power their entire equipment throughout the country on the same generator!

Is it not a contradiction to say Nigeria is good and at the same time that it is bad?  That's the irony of it all and it depends upon the angle one looks at it.
Looking at the land mass and all her rich endowments, Nigeria is an excellent country. But looking at her leadership and their style, it is a curse, not only to be a Nigerian, but to live and attempt to excel in Nigeria.   Then how do I separate Nigeria from her visionless leaders since Nigeria is the mother that produces the bad children who are spoiling her reputation?  What is the benefit of a country with abundant endowments which only impact they  make upon her citizenry is POVERTY?

Let's digress a bit. What is the benefit of Nigeria to me if I earn N100 and N90 out of it is wasted on generating sets, high school fees, fighting mosquitoes, fixing vehicles made rickety simply because I lost two tyres at a go in a single error of running into a deep 'drum-hole' somewhere at Ilesha-Akure 'expressway'?  And this happened beside the burial grounds of armed robbery victims a few years past!

Why do I need burglary in my house, in my street, and charms combined with the Bible+the Quran before I can move around and feel safe or close my eyes at night?   Why should my Doctors recommend expensive drugs such as Lexotan, mogadon, ibuprofane, panadol,  a daily dose of anti-bp tablets.  Why do I need the combination of local herbs with orthodox medicines to combat a ever-resistant malaria?  I think an average Nigeria consumes more of that 'toxin' or 'poison' called anti-biotics than they do multi-vitamins!

Why would the cost of procuring documentation for landed properties be equal to if not more than the cost of erecting a building under which to lay one's head? Why would an average person have to purchase land from two land-lords e.g. the customary owner and the government.  Why would a government revoke a certificate of occupancy it genuinely issued by itself only to restore it at a fee?

The Bible says build your business first before building your home. What a wonderful revelation!  But every business ever contemplated upon by an average Nigerian is killed either by PHCN or Government direct regulations  that will make it impossible for it to run.  How does one build a home with the yield of a failed business?
One thing I have been praying and hoping for is not only to be alive when Nigeria becomes a good country to live in, but also to enjoy it.  I am looking forward to when Nigeria will turn from being a foe which she is today to a friend in need and in deed.  If only before I expire, I can witness and be part of their beneficiaries, then I would die happy!

Why do the Opposite?

For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.  2 Cor. 5:10

"Then she heard someone call her name. It was  a strange voice. She turned and saw the person calling her in a shop, looked at her familiarly... Kehinde became defensive, she asked him how he know her name....   As if he read her thoughts, he said "Don;t mind my drinking alcohol; I am a pastor .  I like you. ....   My mind was at peace, I did not think of anything negative.   He returned later and had changed what he was wearing before ... The pastor unmasked his true self.  He looked at Kehinde straight in the eyes and asked her to remove all her clothes...  "I then removed my skirt, followed by my camisole, my brassiere, then my tight shorts and my pant. "  He said I should open my legs but I refused.  The pastor said he would kill me if I don't shut up. and that he would just dump my corpse somewhere ... He was already o top of me.  The he started sucking my breasts and he penetrated..."  Sunday Punch March 2010 p. 9.

Ladies and gentlemen,  whether the  above quoted biblical statement be real or not whereas it is true, what does it cost us to do good? Why do human being prefer to do evil instead of good?  We all know corruption of any form is bad and we all condemn it yet we all continue to say one thing and do another. We know stealing, sexual immorality, drunkenness, smoking are bad for our health and they waste our resources.  Yet we actively engage in them!  Why?  Why must we be persuaded to do good?    Why do we condemn corruption and when we commit one we justify our actions?

Let's be frank to ourselves.  Let's do the will of God and life will be the better for us.

The Complexities of Marriage

Mrs. Kikelomo's husband travelled for a few days.  On his return, he met the absence of his wife.  A few minutes later the wife arrived  a ceremony, gorgeously dressed, looking radiant.  Kike's husband asked where she was coming from.  She said she was coming from a ceremony to which she was invited by a close colleague of hers.  The husband became furious.  "How on earth would you attend a ceremony without my knowledge?"  He demanded an instant apologies and an assurance that history of that nature would not repeat itself. Kike didn't feel it was a serious matter as to demand such.  So she refused.  The husband became agitated and unhappy at Kike since then.  It degenerated to a serous problem for the family and it was beginning of a divorce proceeding against Kike.

The above 80% real-life story of Kike is what is going on is  some homes today.  Spouses don't understand what it takes to be a couple.  That consent is required from one another before any outing or activity could take place.  That a woman, in particular needs the consent of her husband to engage in party-going and that it spells doom for her if she disobey this rule.    A man equally owes his wife prior explanation as to his movements otherwise the wife may be tempted to become suspicious of him.

Are all these out of sheer jealousy?  No.  It is natural that since the two have become one, one half cannot be independent of another in all activities involving the relationship.  It is therefore instructive that couples should be 100% open to themselves. This s how complex the relationship called "marriage" can be!

Stay Away and Break Your Home!

Loneliness is one of the greatest enemies of marriage. God created man alone but saw that it was not good for him to remain alone so he created Eve to keep him company. However, in the process of their being together, Eve and Adam made room for loneliness again and during the period Adam was briefly away from Eve, Satan visited her and from Genesis to Revelation in the Bible, the rest is history today and the repercussions are grave!

What happened to Eve clearly suggests that nobody is free from temptations when faced with appropriate bait. To Eve, it was a 'beautiful, sweet fruit'. To men it may be 'sexual lust', 'alcohol', 'smoking' etc. For instance, In a matter of sex, women are known to be stronger than men and that's the whole truth but they too, in the case of extreme loneliness, do fall prey! Have you not heard of highly placed lonely women wooing their house-helps?

A lonely man will easily be attracted to the opposite sex and can easily fall. A man who appears unattracted to the opposite sex might not be as a result of his 'holiness' after-all. It might be that he had engaged so much in it in his early life that he has discovered its 'futility' or that he has alternative method of satisfying his sexual urge (e.g. through masturbation , homosexualism, lesbianism and other immoral means)! An elderly Pastor in Pentecostal church threw a large congregation into laughter during a Youth seminar in the church one day when he said "immediately we had the number of children we wanted, we told God we didn't want any more children and that was it.’ When asked whether he applied birth control measures or stopped having sexual intercourse with his wife altogether, he denied using both methods! And everybody laughed because it was obvious that a man of God lied in order to appear holy!

Even in singles, male or female, sexual urge becomes more pronounced from about 12 years of age to about 19th. The real meaning of loneliness becomes known to both from about the age of 20's when a man or a woman feels, beyond having sex, they need true 'companion'. This is the period people take marriage seriously and are restless until they get hooked. This is period a lonely girl truly becomes promiscuous and  lonely guys become a 'he-goat' that cannot be restrained from sexual relationship. Those who know God among them however, rich or poor, will take to the Biblical injunction "if you can no long hold yourself, go get married' which is the wisest counsel to take to.

It is therefore real that those whose nature of jobs involve travelling and staying away from their spouses are more prone to having sexual relationship outside wedlock. Unfortunately when it happens, we do not go straight to the real cause of the issue – loneliness and see to how close they can be to prevent recurrence. We attribute it to 'indiscipline', 'unloving', 'wickedness' etc whereas that's not the truth. A couple that is always apart, saint, or sinner, is almost likely to run into troubled waters wherever they stay. It is therefore far better for couples to do all they can to stay together as much as possible - if only to keep their homes intact

Brevity of Life

You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.  My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath! Psalm 39: 5

One day, an Uncle of the writer suddenly realised that he has become an elderly man and in a quick flash said “life is too short!”.  Ever since then I’ve been meditating over that statement and ever now and then its meaning becomes clearer and clearer to me.  I related it to all the young children we started life together but who have since departed at one point or the other.  I related it to my parents who seemed to me to have  lived long, each of them spending not less than 85 years.  I related it to my self, the last born of my mother who have suddenly turned 53!  I was at our old farm and recalled the huge population of both young and elderly people in the community with whom we all related in the farms in the entire 60’s and I see them no more.  Then I related it to the Biblical stories of great and low men and women who have lived before us and are now remembered only by history!

Then I asked myself “where are they?  Will they ever come back? Can we still have a repeat of the good old days?”  But alas! All that is history.  Yet, no matter how long we live, we shall all ‘disappear’ one day.  Life is truly brief and we need to just try to enjoy in the fear of the Lord during our own brief portion in it.

Watch that your quiet child!

Teach  your children in the way they should go so that when they grow up, they will not depart from it.

There’s one consistent trait observable in almost all children who are cult members or leaders.  They always appear quiet.  They hardly hold themselves out.  By their very nature, they are not eloquent.  Most of them are very brilliant.  But like a serpent that does not announce its appearance by making noise, they calculatedly carry out their nefarious activities underground.

The only antidote that can guarantee the integrity of children is to teach them the ways of the Lord.  If not, no matter how much we try, we will be deceived by them.  Any parent that ignores this has ignored the Key that can unlock the sealed hearts of their children.  Such children are likely to unpleasantly surprise them one day.

Therefore all parents whose children are not being properly mentored towards God should watch those their ‘quiet children’ closely!

Anger is a Killer

Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper, it only leads to harm. Psalm 37: 8

Many people have died, many are on their way to the graveyard already and many will still die!  Many people that are admitted in the hospitals today are not suffering from any peculiar illnesses but as a result of the accumulated distress they have subjected themselves over the years and no medication can cure their diseases! This holds true for people who cannot control their tempers.  They are always boiling and a persistent boiling water will vapourise!

What is the matter with you that turns you into petrol that is ready to ignite at the closest contact with the flame or more dangerous too, natural gas that  is always moving round looking for the tiniest spark of light to ignite it!

If you must live long and fulfilled, if you must live to labour and enjoy the fruit of your labours, you need to control your temper.  Stop looking for what will make you spark up – people’s faults!  Instead, cool down your temper so you can see the many things that would have made you happy and glorify God.

Servant Leadership

As you clim up the ladder of life, your stewardship to humanity must increase.  You must give something to everybody!  You be like the”The tree that had something to offer every category of animals that came in contact with it”

...Let us learn from King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.  It talks of a beautiful, Big, and fruitful tree which provided food for some, shade or cover for some and accommodation for others.  This tree has something to offer every category of animals that came in contact with it.  It was a very useful tree.  Like this tree, you can be beautiful, fruitful and have something to offer every class of human race.  You are capable of impacting them in several ways for God’s glory.  If you are born again but you are not as useful to mankind as this tree, you are yet to exploit your God - given potentials.  This tree affected the world: you too can affect the world for good!”Pastor Adeboye’s “Open Heavens” of 15th January 2010 titled “Something to Everyone”

We all pray to be blessed but not many actual are willing to be a blessing to others!  This is a selfish approach to to life.  The essence of being blessed is to bless others and it must of necessity start from our homes e.g. blessing our children, our siblings, parents, our extended family members, our community, our State our nation and the world at large. If I were to decree, I would say it must of necessity be in that order!  For instance, what’s the pride of a man who is a blessing to outside but that nobody in his household can point to one good he has done for him or her? What’s the pride of someone like Soyinka, Chinua Achebe etc if they make no contribution to Nigeria?  What is the pride of a father who takes no care of his own wife and children but is a world-class ‘philanthropist?”

I therefore urge readers to please flash back and count how relevant they are to all these strata of their communities.  Ask yourself, “how positively have I been impacting all those strata of communities entrusted to my care?” If the answer is negative, then there’s room to make amends and it should be started right away!  The higher you go up the ladder, the more your stewardship to people should be.  You must give something to everyone!

Wisdom and Folly - their offerings

When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,
Discretion will preserve you;
Understanding will keep you,
To deliver you from the way of evil
From the man who speaks perverse things
From those who leave the paths of uprightness
To walk in the ways of darkness
To walk in the ways of darkness
Who rejoice in doing evil
And delight in the in the perversity of the wicked;
Whose ways are crooked
And who are devious in their paths;
To deliver you from the immoral woman,
From the seductress who flatters with her words
Who forsakes the companion of her youth
And forgets the covenant of her God
For her house leads down to death
And her paths to the dead;
None who go to her return
Nor do they regain the paths of life

Prov. 2:10-19
It takes wisdom to be able to discern when one is drifting away into the oblivion.  However, one without the spirit of discernment is easily carried away by what they call the pleasures of the world.  For instance research shows that many young children that found themselves in evil company and ended up being caught in crimes are those who disregard God’s words, disobey their parents and go their own ways.

Some other  easy traps are  SEX and ALCOHOL.  Sex is; itself, like alcohol.  Hardly can any mortal man see the nakedness of a woman and be able to say no to that temptation. Yet it is a potent weapon in the hands of women to bring the unwary highly or lowly placed or even strong men of God down. What is more, it is now made easy.  Women themselves do the wooing simply with their bare breasts.  And the men cannot resist, except perhaps, those preserved by God! For the men who are fools, it is easy, their mouths are as sweet as the apple their eyes are seeing.  They easily and majestically walk into the bosom of such women!

Alcohol is another deadly game that every unwary person will surely want to give a try.   It is so enticing, beautiful in appearance, sweet in taste but more deadly than the venum of a poisonous serpent. Why don’t we all consider the above proverbs and become wise so that we may live?.

God's Spirit

Teach me to do your will
For You are my God.
Your Spirit is good.
Psalm 143:10

Many of us miss it in life because we fail to ask God for direction.  He is our God, our Creator, our everything, unless He teaches us to do right, we are bound to do wrong always.  Therefore it is wise and very instructive for us to seek to know His will for our lives and seek His help to enable us do just that because His Spirit is good towards us.

Delicate Species!

You shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child,
if you afflict them in any way, and they cry at all and My wrath will come hot, and I will kill you with the sword; your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless;
Exodus: 22:22

God has special love towards the fatherless, the widow, the strangers and the ‘truly’ disabled  and poor persons.  By extension, this is applicable to our domestic helps!

Therefore we ought to be careful about how we deal with them.  Failure to treat them well may lead one to import generational curses upon generations after him or her and divert the journey of a heaven-bound person to the pit of hell!

Ought we all take good care of these sets of people?

Having Direction Life

Cause me to hear Your
Loving kindness in the morning
For in You do I trust
Cause me to know the way in which
I should walk
For I lift up m soul to You
Psalm. 143:8

Many people live wasted lives because they fail to hear from God concerning the issues of their lives.  They trust in themselves than in their Maker.  They go in their own ways  rather than walk in the ways the Lord has purposed for them.  They end up being wasted.

What is Man?

Lord, what is man, that You take

Knowledge of him?

Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him?

Man is like a breath;

His days are like a passing shadow

Psalm 143:3-4

When you are tempted to beat your chest that you are this or that. Recollect the above statement as to your true status. Come to the realisation that you are what you are because God is still mindful of you, otherwise you are no more than a breath and very soon your days will pass off like a shadow and you will be remembered no more.

Therefore fear the Lord, humble yourself and let your life reflect service to others. That’s the only way you can leave your good mark in the sands of time.

You Are Protected

As the mountains surround Jerusalem

So the Lord surrounds His people

From this time forth

And for ever

Psalm 125:2

Have you ever flown to Abuja the Capital of Nigeria? Abuja town, like the biblical Jerusalem, is walled round about by high mountains that you will ordinarily think there is no way a vehicle can enter into it. Apart from the advantage of aesthetics, Abuja looks very much secured in all directions from any form of possible attacks other than by air. That’s how God surrounds His own all the time. That is why those who trust in

Him cannot easily fall prey into the hands of the vultures which are ever-ready to devour their preys. Their lives and everything they do start with Him and ends with Him.

Disappointed?

Those who trust I in the Lord

Are like Mount Zion,

Which cannot be moved, but

Abides for ever

Psalm 125:1-2

Have you ever experienced a serious disappointment in time of dire need for help? If not, it means you have not placed your trust in man! Man will almost always disappoint you. The reason may be intentional or otherwise it doesn’t matter. He has no control over the promises he is making to you. The only person who cannot disappoint is Your Creator. Go to Him before you approach anybody for help. Even when anybody makes a promise to you, it is not cast in stone. Pray that God grants him the enablement to fulfil it for it is only those to whom God has granted the grace to help that can do so.

Passing Judgement on others

Do not enter into judgment with Your servant,
For in Your sight no one living is righteous.
Psalm: 143 2

It is easier to judge others especially when they have done wrong.  But anytime I reflect upon the above statement, I feel humbled for no one can claim to be sinless.  All we should ask from our merciful God is His mercy and the grace to survive temptations that come our way.   Truly, I’m not better than anybody!  How about you?  If you are not, then overlook the sins of others! Good morning.

Who and Where Are Your Enemies?

"To be candid, Lagos is financially very wasteful.  That's why it may be necessary for every Lagosian to determine their entry and exit dates right from the beginning otherwise they may start poor and end poor because as the Yoruba Elders had said even before now, "owo Eko, Eko lo ngbe''.

Now, I am addressing Lagosians specifically.   Many people residing in Lagos who thought their enemies back home are responsible for their financial failure should begin to have a rethink.  Their enemies might not at the village after all.   No, they reside in Lagos. And they are just two of them.  The third, is an aider and abetter!  Who are these two notorious enemies?  The HEAT and the MOSQUITOES!   Their accomplice is POWER HOLDING COMPANY OF NIGERIA.

This is how they operate:  PHCN will power off.  Then the two constant enemies will take over.   One (heat) operates 24 hours while the Mosquitoes operate from 12 hours (7pm-7a m).  Their financial implications are the fact that compulsorily you must either use a genset whatever the size, at least, to power your fan to forcefully invoke the air to blow day and night.  On this alone to fan your house day and night on Tiger genset, an average Lagosian needs 6 litres of petrol per day and at today's average cost of N80 per litre x7 days/wk  that amounts to N3,360 x 4(1 month) N13,440x12=161280 per annum on petrol alone.  The genset (costing N14,000 to be modest, needs constant service say N600 per month (i.e. N21,200year) and the petrol itself needs to be diluted with Engine oil (say N1000 pm =12,000 p.a.) all the time.  Altogether, to fan and light the poor man's house per annum, he spends on the average, N208,280 per annum or N17357 per month.

If he is able to do this, then, he can be rest assured that he would most likely enjoy excellent health and with his fan always on, spend far less on insecticides as his fans will clip off the wings of mosquitoes!  If he cannot, he loses his sleep to mosquitoes 'songs of praise' as well as their bites and heat which produces its own forms of 'rashes' thereby producing constant malaria attacks, low immunity to other diseases, which are expensive to treat medically.  Because he did not sleep well always, psychologically he is imbalanced and behaviourally unpredictable!  In his own private life, he is of course unproductive so he gets himself glued to his salary job which might be fetching him what was not enough to cater for power generation alone!

If he spends all his money on power generation, then nothing is left for him to give to anybody, even to his own immediate family.  And when he arrives in his village, his people expects from him a 'token'.  Because he could not afford it (not talking about those who are naturally stingy), he becomes uneasy with himself and his people.  As he hides, he is monitored by the people not to kill him but to ensure they get their own dues before he 'escapes'.  At the nearest opportunity, he disappears back to Lagos.  So restless in Lagos, restless in his village, that's the life of an average poor man.

Even the rich also cries!  His Ac's must work.  His deep freezers, his electric burners, his expensive electronics, etc must work so he needs his own equivalent of 'Tiger' generator which might be something like 50Kva 'silent' or 'noisy' gensets to achieve his aim.  Of course diesel costs only N110 or so per litre!  So to whom much is given much expected.  Unfortunately his lifestyle has adjusted upwards and he cannot adjust downwards.  So that costs  him millions of naira to sustain himself in Lagos per annum.

This way, whether rich or poor their enemies are within their LAGOS environment!   To be candid, Lagos is financially very wasteful.  That's why it may be necessary for every Lagosian to determine their entry and exit dates right from the beginning otherwise they may start poor and end poor because as the Yoruba Elders had said even before now, "owo Eko, Eko lo ngbe'.   And unfortunately, their 'village' enemies will be blamed for their failures, not Lagos. See how smart Lagos can be?  Good morning.
