Not Letting Go, our Past

Not Letting Go our Past

The constant review of our past history serves the useful purpose of enabling us identify what we ought to have done better.  It is useful in two ways:  for us to guide ourselves as we execute present ideas and help us avoid the avoidable pitfalls for the future.  Secondly, it serves as a good tool for counsel for those who might be seeking our advice on such matters.    Because we have failed, in it and knew why we failed, it becomes easy to guide ourselves and others needing our help on the matter.
However, the issue with us i we never use past regrets for these positive purposes, rather we use it to destroy our future and also to misguide other people.   Let’s take an example.  A girl who get impregnated and dropped out of school did not have a major issue in her hands.  She still have two opportunities to make her way in life the better of which is to return to school after delivery or learn a trade she has passion for and take apply her life to it.  Also she ought to become a role model to let young girls know that having such an experience is not the end of their lives but that they can make amends and still get fulfilled anyway.

However if she refuses to take to either of the two alternatives open to her and begins to blame others or even her irresponsible boyfriend over the incident or worse still decides to go for superstitious believes and goes spiritual thereby trying to know who in her family ‘pushed’ her into such mistake, she has missed the point.  She will be on this while shortly, poverty will strike her down like a plague.  Like our pregnant girl, a student who fails an examination and gives up has handed him or herself to poverty.  But the one who fails and continues to rewrite the examinations until he eventually passes is the wise one.
Many of us are like those two students who experienced disappointments but instead of finding ways around them, sat down, lamenting them! If you are in such position, nobody will help you unless you help yourself. God has done his own bit by letting you know either by yourself or through other people’s advice that you still have escape routes.  If you fail to do take to the escape routes, it’s your own matter.    Do something about your own  life YOURSELF today.
