Who and Where Are Your Enemies?

"To be candid, Lagos is financially very wasteful.  That's why it may be necessary for every Lagosian to determine their entry and exit dates right from the beginning otherwise they may start poor and end poor because as the Yoruba Elders had said even before now, "owo Eko, Eko lo ngbe''.

Now, I am addressing Lagosians specifically.   Many people residing in Lagos who thought their enemies back home are responsible for their financial failure should begin to have a rethink.  Their enemies might not at the village after all.   No, they reside in Lagos. And they are just two of them.  The third, is an aider and abetter!  Who are these two notorious enemies?  The HEAT and the MOSQUITOES!   Their accomplice is POWER HOLDING COMPANY OF NIGERIA.

This is how they operate:  PHCN will power off.  Then the two constant enemies will take over.   One (heat) operates 24 hours while the Mosquitoes operate from 12 hours (7pm-7a m).  Their financial implications are the fact that compulsorily you must either use a genset whatever the size, at least, to power your fan to forcefully invoke the air to blow day and night.  On this alone to fan your house day and night on Tiger genset, an average Lagosian needs 6 litres of petrol per day and at today's average cost of N80 per litre x7 days/wk  that amounts to N3,360 x 4(1 month) N13,440x12=161280 per annum on petrol alone.  The genset (costing N14,000 to be modest, needs constant service say N600 per month (i.e. N21,200year) and the petrol itself needs to be diluted with Engine oil (say N1000 pm =12,000 p.a.) all the time.  Altogether, to fan and light the poor man's house per annum, he spends on the average, N208,280 per annum or N17357 per month.

If he is able to do this, then, he can be rest assured that he would most likely enjoy excellent health and with his fan always on, spend far less on insecticides as his fans will clip off the wings of mosquitoes!  If he cannot, he loses his sleep to mosquitoes 'songs of praise' as well as their bites and heat which produces its own forms of 'rashes' thereby producing constant malaria attacks, low immunity to other diseases, which are expensive to treat medically.  Because he did not sleep well always, psychologically he is imbalanced and behaviourally unpredictable!  In his own private life, he is of course unproductive so he gets himself glued to his salary job which might be fetching him what was not enough to cater for power generation alone!

If he spends all his money on power generation, then nothing is left for him to give to anybody, even to his own immediate family.  And when he arrives in his village, his people expects from him a 'token'.  Because he could not afford it (not talking about those who are naturally stingy), he becomes uneasy with himself and his people.  As he hides, he is monitored by the people not to kill him but to ensure they get their own dues before he 'escapes'.  At the nearest opportunity, he disappears back to Lagos.  So restless in Lagos, restless in his village, that's the life of an average poor man.

Even the rich also cries!  His Ac's must work.  His deep freezers, his electric burners, his expensive electronics, etc must work so he needs his own equivalent of 'Tiger' generator which might be something like 50Kva 'silent' or 'noisy' gensets to achieve his aim.  Of course diesel costs only N110 or so per litre!  So to whom much is given much expected.  Unfortunately his lifestyle has adjusted upwards and he cannot adjust downwards.  So that costs  him millions of naira to sustain himself in Lagos per annum.

This way, whether rich or poor their enemies are within their LAGOS environment!   To be candid, Lagos is financially very wasteful.  That's why it may be necessary for every Lagosian to determine their entry and exit dates right from the beginning otherwise they may start poor and end poor because as the Yoruba Elders had said even before now, "owo Eko, Eko lo ngbe'.   And unfortunately, their 'village' enemies will be blamed for their failures, not Lagos. See how smart Lagos can be?  Good morning.
