“You have covered yourself with anger and pursued us; you have slain without pity.  You have covered yourself with a cloud so that no prayer can get through.”  Lam. 3:43-44

When one faces serious challenges of life, it would appear as if the end has come. While in the midst of these challenges it will be as if God does not answer prayers anymore as expressed in the above verse.  I remember the story of a particular educated Christian whose sister took ill.  He had done everything a brother could do to help her beloved sister but all to no avail.  Then he turned to God in prayers.  He made a covenant with Him thus, “If my sister would recover from this illness, I will serve yon till the end of my life.  But if she does not, I will deny you.”  His sister died and he forsook God!  Late Dr. Tai Solar in used to be a very humble Christian in his early days.   Once upon a time, he had read well preparatory to writing his WAEC examinations.  Out of the confidence he build through hard work, he was sure to pass.  Then he decided to challenge God Almighty “If only You are there, God, let me fail this examination. If I failed, I will continue to serve you but if not, I will deny you.”   He passed!  He forsook God.  Giving God conditions to do something for us as if He is subject to us, is like a child giving his parents conditions for accepting something good for him from them.  It is a foolish approach to realising out goals.

In whatever situation we are, let’s not give God conditions.  Let’s pray to Him.  If He answers, so be it.  If not, so be it.  After all, He knows how to bring something good out of a hopeless situation!  I still maintain that if I did not fail a paper during my Diploma Days in the University, I would probably never have gotten admitted to the Degree level.  The disappointment I had with my failure paved the way for springing up of a helper who ensured I was admitted to the Degree level.  Rather than tempt God, when you are at your lowest ebb, be encouraged.  Trust in God that at the end of the crisis, you will come out a better person. Always tell yourself when in crisis: “There’s hope for me”.
